Johnsson, who moved into third place with 2746 (228.83), led the team with 1393, Glendert added 1329 and Flack contributed 1238 en route to break the old Championship record (3,811) set by 2005 World Champions Wang Yu-Lin, Huang Chiung-Yao and Chou Miao-Lin, Chinese Taipei, by 159 pins. The Swedes averaged 220.56 over six games, the first three on long oil and the second three on the short oil pattern.
Team USA's Shannon O'Keefe, Tennelle Milligan and Lynda Barnes (l-r), who led the field after the first block, fell behind the Swedes after the first game on Monday, fourth game overall, but regained the lead with a huge 737-game, which broke the old the previous record (728 from Koreans Kim Soo-Kyung, Choi Ji-Na and Cha Mi-Jung) by 9 pins. The Americans could only muster 601 in their final game and had to settle for the silver medal with 3,928.
"Even though we came here to win gold medals, I'm not disappointed because we bowled really great and just hit a bad pair of lanes the last game," said Barnes, a three-time U.S. Amateur champion. "The last pair played so differently than the previous lanes we were on that it took us by surprise. We just didn't get matched up quickly enough."
Barnes paced Team USA with 1,351 and was followed by Milligan with 1,315 and O'Keefe with 1,262. It was the highest finish in trios in 20 years for Team USA since the gold medal in Helsinki in 1987.
Korea with Nam Bo Ra, Choi Jin A and Kim Yeau Jin claimed the bronze with 3,898. Kim, who shot a perfect game in doubles, led the team with 1365 to overtake the lead in All Events after 12 of 24 games with 2,771 total and an average of 230.92. Choi added 1,313 but slipped to second place in All Events with 2,751 (229.52). Nam contributed 1219.
Danes Mai Ginge Jensen, Britt Brondsted and Kamilla Kjeldsen missed the bronze medal by 12 pins to finish fourth at 3,886. Singapore's Sabrina Lim, Evelyn Chan, Jazreel Tan rolled games of 687, 647 and 748 on the long pattern to set a new championship record for three games with 2082, a 231.33 average, en route to jump into fifth place with 3,816.
