Choi Jin A sets championship record to claim the gold medal in All Events at Women's World Championships

Top 16 women in All Events advance to Masters finals

2005WWCChoiJinA_small.jpg Despite rolling her lowest six-game series in the 2nd Women's World Championships, Choi Jin A from Korea, broke the championship record for 24 games en route to secure the gold medal in All Events (individual totals from Doubles, Trios, Team and Singles) at Bol Obispado in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Korean averaged 221.50 over 24 games and felled 5,316 pins. England's Zara Glover set the previous record when she won the All Events title in 2003 in Malaysia with 5,286.

Ann-Maree Putney (right), Australia, who earned the silver medal in Singles with 1,336, moved up five spots to take the bronze medal with 5,256 pinfall total (219.00).

Singles champion Shannon O'Keefe, United States, missed the bronze by 37 pins to finish in fourth place with 5,219 (217.46).

Action now shifts to the single-elimination best-of-five games Masters event, which will begin on Friday morning at 10.00 am local time and will conclude the championships on Saturday afternoon.

The top 16 in All Events advanced to Masters play. 8 of the 43 countries will be represented in the Masters finals. Team USA took 4 spots, Korea and Sweden 3 each, Malaysia 2 and Australia, Germany, Mexico and Singapore 1 each.

In the Round of 16 Choi, the #1 seed, will take on Diana Alfredsson, Sweden, who grabbed the 16th and final spot with 5,096 (212.33). Milligan meets Alfredsson's team mate, Trios gold medalist Malin Glendert. Putney, the 1999 Masters champion meets defending champion Diandra Asbaty, who leaped from 25th to 14th during Singles.

O'Keefe bowls Michaela Göbel from Germany, while Team gold medalist Shalin Zulkifli, Malaysia takes on Mexico's Adriana Perez. Lynda Barnes, United States meets Kim Yeau-Jin, Korea, who posted one two 300 games during the championships. Kirsten Penny, England, who shot the other, missed the Masters finals by one pin to finish 17th.

In the other matches, Jazreel Tan, Singapore faces Esther Cheah, Malaysia and Gye Min-Young, Korea meets Helen Johnsson, Sweden.

The Women's World Championships features 225 athletes from 43 countries competing in six events - Doubles, Trios, Team, Singles, All Events And Masters.
