Andersson rolls 300 to win high scoring qualifying in 5th Columbia 300 Vienna Open
Williams/Hulsch earn the title in the doubles competition

Robert Andersson (left) from Sweden waited until the last squad to win one of the highest scoring qualifying in the history of the European Bowling Tour at the 5th Columbia 300 Vienna Open.

Achim Grabowski, Germany, who missed a perfecto by one pin in his third game, and Oliver Morig, both Germany landed in fourth and fifth place with 1509 and 1455, respectively. Dane Jimmy Mortensen was sandwiched between two Swedes, Dennis Eklund (1448) and Peter Ljung (1444), in seventh place with 1445. The top 8 will earn one bye for tomorrow's finals.
Tomek Janicki, Poland, took the 56th and final qualifying post with 1360 an average of 226.67. Stuart Williams, who shot two 300 games in the qualifying, and Tina Hulsch (right) from Germany won the Doubles competition with 2904 six-game total to split the 1.600 Euro top prize (approx. US$2,270).
Petteri Salonen, who posted the first 300 game of the tournament and Sami Konsteri, both Finland, ended up in second place with 2886 and the highest scratch average of 240.50. Andersson and Nikolay Ovchinnikovs, Latvia, took the third place with 2881 (pictured left). Singles Results

The qualifying for the Vienna Open finals was contested as a unique doubles tournament. 10.230 Euro or approx. US$ 14,510 from the overall prize fund of 60.530 Euro ($85,850) were given to the top 20 teams.
Each team rolled one six-game block. Unlimited re-entries with different partners were possible but each player could only cash once with the same partner. The team with the highest total pinfall including handicap was declared the winner (no finals will be played).
The winners of the Doubles event split 1.600 Euro or approx. US$2,270. World champions Martin Larsen and Robert Andersson, Sweden, were the defending champions.
Qualifying ran from Wednesday through Saturday and ended with the ultimate Desperado Squad on Saturday evening, Oct. 20.
A total of 68 players from the qualifying advanced to the finals starting on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 8am:
Advancing as "lucky loser" were (cutoff number 1360):
All but the top 8 qualifiers will bowl 6 games starting from scratch to cut to the top 24. Those 24 will be seeded 9-32 in the match play round of 32.
Match play rounds of 32, 16 and 8 are single-elimination, best-of-three games. The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded player, the second-highest seeded player vs. the second-lowest seeded player, etc.
The semi-finals and the championship match will be decided in one game. A major on the European Bowling Tour, bowlers will be competing for a top prize of 7.000 Euro ($9,930) and an overall prize fund of 60.530 Euro ($85,850).
Bowlingdigital will cover the event live from Vienna with updates after each round commencing October 17 all the way through to the finals on Sunday, October 21.
