Holloway stays cool over lane conditions

The actual lane patterns at the SF Strike Bowl in Bangkok continued to be a secret but (Malaysian) national chief coach Holloway Cheah was not upset at all.

The team spent some time practicing at the venue yesterday ahead of the competition, which begins on Saturday.

"We expected this. The hosts will not reveal the patterns early. In fact, I think, we made the wise decision on not coming here a week earlier. We would have wasted our time," said Holloway.

"Today, we bowled on normal lane conditions and some of our bowlers, especially Esther (Cheah - editor's note: the coach's daughter), had a good workout. We will know the actual lane conditions in the official practice session (tomorrow)."

Holloway added that the team members were concentrating more on their mental preparation ahead of the competition.

"It is important to be calm and collected and I am happy to see our bowlers in a very relaxed mood," he added.

On the four main rival teams, Holloway said: "Indonesia is here with a new and young men's team. Singapore has named only one newcomer in their women's side. Thailand and the Philippines are here with their usual bowlers."

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) has set a modest target of four gold medals. A total of 11 gold medals are up for grabs.
