Thailand (men) and Malaysia (women) win Team gold in SEA Games
SF Strike Bowl Ramkhamhaeng in Bangkok, Thailand (Dec. 6-14, 2007)
Badin Lertpiriyasakulkit, Phoemphun Yakasem, Surasak Manuwong, Somjed Kusonpithak and Yannaphon Larp-apharat from the host country of Thailand delighted the fans at SF Strike Bowl Ramkhamhaeng in Bangkok when they claimed the gold medal in the men's Team event at the 24th Southeast Asian Games. The five some felled 5832 over six games, an average of 194.40. Malaysians Daniel Lim, Zulmazran Zulkifli, Alex Liew, Adrian Ang and Aaron Kong were 20 pins behind to earn the silver medal with 5812 (193.73). The bronze medal went to Indonesia with Ryan Lalisang, Oscar Oscar, Dennis Pulunggono, Yudhira Rangga, Dwichandra and Haqi Rumandung, who chalked up 5690 (189.67).
Places 4-7 belonged to Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam and Laos.
While the Malaysian men still haven't won a gold medal, the women's team earned the third title after winning the doubles and trios event. Esther Cheah, Zatil Iman, Siti Safiyah Amirah, Sharon Koh and Shalin Zulkifli totaled 5723 pins and averaged 190.77 to win the women's Team event.
Trailing Malaysia by 111 pins to earn the silver medal were Tannya Roumimper, Sharon Limansantoso, Shalima Zalsha, Happy Soediyono and Putty Armein from Indonesia with 5612 (187.07). Thailand's Lerdcharoentrakul T., Husanee Chupinij, Aree Gunnalada, Saowapha Kunaksorn and Angkana Netrviseth were another 8 pins behind to take the bronze with 5604 (186.80).
Places 4-6 belonged to Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam.
The top 16 men and the top 16 women in All Events will return on Wednesday and Thursday for the men's and women's Masters. The top 3 after two 8-game blocks will advance to the stepladder finals. The SEA Games bowling competition will conclude with the Mixed Doubles event on Friday, Dec. 14.
