As the unique made-for-television event Bowling's Clash of Champions, presented by the United States Bowling Congress and Strike Ten Entertainment, gets closer, USBC is profiling each of the 16 participants in the event.

Meet Wendy Macpherson and Mike Rose Jr.

* How they qualified: Wendy Macpherson claimed the Classic All-Events tile at the USBC Women's Championships while Mike Rose Jr. won the Regular All-Events title at the USBC Open Championships.

* About Bowling's Clash of Champions: The Clash will bring together 16 champions of USBC events and the U.S. Open ranging in age from teenagers to seniors competing for $100,000 in prize money on national television. The event will take place May 7-8 at the USBC Convention in Kansas City, Mo., and taped for broadcast on CBS Sports May 10 from 5-6 p.m. Eastern and May 11 from 4-5 p.m. Eastern.

2008CoCWendyMacpherson.jpg * About Wendy Macpherson: A 20-time winner on the Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour, Macpherson, 40, of Henderson, Nev., made history when she became the first woman to win the Regular Singles title at the USBC Open Championships in 2006. She is one of only two players to win the USBC Queens three times (1998, 2000 and 2003), was the Bowler of the Decade for the 1990s and, at age 18, became the youngest winner of the U.S. Women's Open.

* Macpherson's thoughts: "I think this is a very exciting format and with each ball being sudden death, it will definitely require skill and a bit of luck. I also think the competition in the Clash will be some of the best there is and the winner can be any of the 16 players. I am really looking forward to it."

* About the USBC Women's Championships: Open to any USBC female member, the Women's Championships is the largest participatory sporting event in the world for women and is held in a different city each year. The event attracts more than 40,000 bowlers from across the country each year to compete for titles in singles, doubles, team and all-events.

2008CoCMikeRose.jpg * About Mike Rose Jr.: Rose, 37, of West Henrietta, N.Y., was the runner-up for the PBA's Rookie of the Year award in 1993 when he chased his dream as a professional bowler. Today, he is considered one of the game's top amateur bowlers. Rose has won numerous regional and local titles, including the Rochester Masters.

* Rose's thoughts: "I think this tournament is a great idea. It's not only a good idea because it gives us the opportunity to win $50,000 but because it showcases the best of the best in our sport for last year. I'm a huge proponent of anything that promotes the sport of bowling and helps grow the sport."

* About the USBC Open Championships: With more than 60,000 competitors each year, the Open Championships is the largest participatory sporting event in the world. Held in a different city each year, the event is open to any USBC member and awards more than $5 million in prize money. Players battle for titles in singles, doubles, team and all-events.
