Al Dubyan beats El Awamy to claim men's title in 10th Sinai International Open

Healey wins women's title from top seed

2008SOKhaledAlDubyan2.jpg 2008SOMansoorElAwamy.jpg Khaled Al Dubyan (left), Kuwait, defeated tournament leader Mansoor El Awamy (right), Qatar, in the men's title match in the 10th Sinai International Open Tenpin Bowling Tournament at International Bowling Center in Cairo, Egypt, 222-186, to claim the title and the $7,000 top prize.

Two Kuwaitis and two Qataris advanced to the stepladder finals and the Kuwaitis won all three matches. In the opening match, fourth seeded Jasim Darweesh ousted No. 3 Bandar Al-Shafi, 238-194. but fell to Al Dubyan in an all-Kuwaiti semi-final, 195-158.

El Awamy received $5,000 for second, Darweesh earned $3,000 for third and Al-Shafi took $1,500 for fourth place.

2008SOTeresaHealey.jpg 2008SOSandraTorrents.jpg On the women's side, top-seeded Teresa Healey (left), Mexico flew past denied Sandra Torrents' (right) bid for back-to-back titles by defeating the Spaniard, 204-160. Healey received $3,000 for the victory, while Torrents pocketed $2,000.

Torrents, seeded third after Round Robin, eliminated No. 4 Aliaa Ismael, Egypt, in the opening match, 203-174, and went on to defeat Sara Vargas, Colombia, 256-208, in the semi-final. Vargas received $1,500 for third and Ismael garnered $1,000 for fourth place.

El Awamy leads men's round robin at halftime in Sinai Open


2007QATMansoorAlAwamy_small.jpg Mansoor El Awamy (left), Qatar, won five of the first eight matches in round robin match play at the 10th Sinai International Open to hold a comfortable 82 pin lead heading into the final day before the cut to the top 4 for the stepladder finals.

El Awamy had seven games over 200 including a tied high game of the day with 276 for 1817 pinfall total, an average of 227.13. He added 50 pins bonus, 10 for each win, to lead the 16 men's finalists with 1867 total.

Khaled Al Dubyan, Kuwait was second with 1785 including a 5-3 match play record. Qualifying leader Jasim Darweesh, Kuwait, was third with 1770 (5-3). Rounding out the top 4, who will advance to the stepladder finals after another seven games round robin and the final position round, is Abdulla Al Qattan, Qatar, who totaled 1764 (4-4).

2008SOBadrAlSheiikh2_small.jpg Another Kuwaiti, Basel Al Anzy, is 44 pins off the pace in 5th place with 1720. Final Round 1 leader Badr Al Sheikh (right), Saudi Arabia, came out the gates quickly with 276 and 274, but had to settle for sixth place with 1717 (4-4) behind five sub-200s in the last six games.

The remaining 16 men and 8 women bowl 16 and 8 games round robin match play including position round (starting from scratch). The top 4 men and the top 4 women will bowl for the title in a traditional stepladder final. The men's and women's champions will receive $7,000 and $3,000.

Healey, Al Sheikh move to the top in Final Round 1 at Sinai Open


2008SOBadrAlSheiikh.jpg Two-time Asian Games champion Badr Al Sheikh (left), Saudi Arabia, rolled six-game blocks of 1333 and 1368 to overtake the lead in the 10th Sinai International Open in Egypt after the first round of the finals.

Starting from scratch, Al Sheikh posted a 2701 series, an average of 225.08.

2008EGTTarekHelmy_small.jpg 2005 World Ranking Masters champion Khaled Al Dubyan, Kuwait, was 30 pins behind in second place with 2671. Mansour Al Awamy, Qatar, was third with 2656.

Tarek Helmy (right), Egypt, hit the cutoff number for 15th place with 2444 (203.67) and his compatriot Ziad Anwar advanced as the best Egyptian outside the top 15 in 21st place with 2387.

2008SOTeresaHealey.jpg On the women's side Teresa Healey (left), Mexico, wife of PBA champion Patrick Healey, took a 156-pin lead after the first six-game block with 1323 pinfall total including a 278 game and an average of 220.50.

She outaveraged qualifying leader Chan Suk Han, who is second with 1167, by 26 pins.

2007BWCSandraTorrents_small.jpg Third place belongs to defending champion Sandra Torrents (right), Spain, who felled 1155 pins. Former World Ranking Masters champion Sara Vargas, Colombia, is fourth with 1137 followed by the best Egyptian, Hala Sharawy, in fifth, 1090.

The top 15 men plus one Egyptian and the top 7 women plus one Egyptian after 12 games advance to round robin match play (starting from scratch). The top 4 men and the top 4 women will bowl for the title in a traditional stepladder final. The men's and women's champions will receive $7,000 and $3,000.


Women's Division - Final Round 1 (first block only)


The Top 14 qualifiers plus 2 Egyptians bowl 12 games. The top 7 plus 1 Egyptian will advance.
