Sport, Business of Bowling on display at 2008 USBC Convention

The sport and the business of bowling will take center stage this week when the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Convention takes place in Kansas City, Mo.

The sport will be demonstrated in major fashion with the debut of Bowling's Clash of Champions, a made-for-television event featuring the champions of USBC events and the U.S. Open in 2007.

Four lanes have been specially installed in the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium where the 16 entrants, who range from youth to senior and amateur to pro, will tape two shows Thursday night for airing on CBS Sports on Saturday from 5-6 p.m. EDT and on Sunday from 4-5 EDT.

The business part of the week begins Wednesday with morning workshops for the 2,000 attendees representing USBC bowlers nationwide. A general session including introduction of the Clash of Champions participants and the first of a variety of awards presented during the week will be held that afternoon.

Additional seminars and workshops at the Westin Crown Center precede the Clash of Champions tapings at the Municipal Auditorium on Thursday with the USBC Annual Meeting beginning Friday morning. Included will be the USBC Hall of Fame induction ceremony which will include the addition of bowling stars Leanne Barrette Hulsenberg, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Parker Bohn III and Brian Voss.

Saturday morning will feature the annual Meet for the Cure ceremony honoring USBC's commitment to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization's research to fight breast cancer. Later, Annual Meeting delegates will vote on the rules and bylaws of the sport and elect four people to the organization's Board of Directors.
