WTM champion Caminsky forced to postpone the upcoming Durban Cup
The Durban Cup has built up a wonderful tradition over the years for South African bowlers. Therefore, it was a difficult decision for bowling center proprietor and South Africa No. 1 bowler, Guy Caminsky (pictured), to announce that the Durban Cup 2008, due for the May 17-18, is postponed."We have had an unfortunate incident at Superbowling Gateway," said Caminsky, who won the 11th World Tenpin Masters in England and the 30,000 Dollar first prize three weeks ago.
"A customer threw a ball into our ceiling and knocked off the sprinkler head for the fire sprinkler system. This caused the emergency fire sprinklers to activate and deposit 2000 liters of water onto the lanes." The damage has been massive and in Caminsky's opinion the center is not tournament ready.
"I understand that this will disappoint many bowlers but I can assure that it is in the best interest of the tournament. I feel the lane condition will be so bad that by hosting the event in spite of the water damage will do more harm to the tournament.
"The good news is that we will be able to resurface the lanes and provide a world class pattern on the lanes this year. I expect the tournament to be held in the latter part of 2008. I will keep you posted as to the new dates as soon as I have them."
