Rioux and Reid earn gold medals at Canadian National Championships

Club Laverendrye and Chateau Lanes in Winnipeg, Manitoba (May 16-19, 2008)

Joe Ciach, Mississauga, Ontario and Felicia Wong, Calgary, Alberta earned the silver medals. Ciach was the silver medalist at the 2007 championships. Robin Orlikowski, a Canadian citizen living in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Terry Krawec, St. Catharines, On, won the bronze medals. Wong and Orlikowski are former Team Canada members.

Kerrie Ryan-Ciach, Mississauga, On., Melissa Legault, Sarnia, On. and Alyssa Cicconi, Montreal, QC complete the six members of the women's team.

Corey Clayton, Calgary, Ab,, Dan Tereck, Winnipeg, Mb. and Chris Clerke, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. completed the men's team.

A selection committee will name two men and women who finished in the top 18 for the men and the top 12 for the women, to complete the eight men and women's adult team.

Quebec bowlers dominated the Youth team (those who are under 20 as of January 1, 2009). Rosalie Hiscock, Laval and Mathieu Beaudoin of Sherbrooke, QC earned the gold medals.

Silver medals went to Pamela Beaudin, Chatequay, QC and Raymond Lussier, Montreal. Bronze medalist are Valerie Calberry of Brampton, On. and Massimo Catanzariti, Montreal, QC.

Kodee Pilling, Lethbridge, Ab and Guillaume Trahan, Napierville, are the fourth members of the under 20 Team Canada. Kirsti Long, and Brendan Rodgers, Edmonton, Ab are the alternates. The youth team will represent Canada at the PABCOM (American Zone) Youth Championships in 2009 at a site to be determined.

Six women from the 2009 adult Team Canada will bowl for Canada at the Women's World Championships that will be held in Las Vegas, USA, July 25 – August second, 2009. Six adult men will compete at the PABCOM (American Zone) Championships at a site and date to be determined. Also, two adult men and women will take part in the Tournament of the Americas in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in August 2008.

71 men and 43 women entered the championship to earn a position on Team Canada and the right to represent Canada at international events in 2009. The championships were held over four days at two centers.

Competitors bowled 24 games in three eight-game blocks at Club Laverendrye and Chateau Lanes in Winnipeg on May 16, 17 and 18. The field was cut to 36 men and 24 women after 16 games and a further cut to 18 men and 12 women for the 12 games of match play on May 19th. Total pins were carried over to the match play and bonus points of 10 pins were awarded for each match won. Two oil patterns – long and short – were used each day.
