2008 European Bowling Tour Rankings 

Palermaa, Penny maintain lead in EBT rankings; Moor and Sanders narrow the gap

Tour continues with its "premier" event, the Ankara Open (Sep. 13-21, 2008)

2008EBT05KirstenPenny2_small.jpg 2008EBT05OskuPalermaa2_small.jpg Kirsten Penny (left), England and Osku Palermaa (right), Finland, maintained their lead in the women's and men's European Bowling Tour rankings after the conclusion of the 30th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona, Spain, the 11th out of 18 Tour stops this season.

Penny, who finished the tournament in 16th place and second among the 37 women, earned 80 ranking points for 499 point total. The multiple world and European champion has cashed points in all but one tournament (Luxembourg).

Palermaa was 7th in Barcelona and the sixth best out of 115 men to receive 48 points, good for 439 overall. The Finnish two-hander has won the EBT title in Aalborg this season, and is the sole player - men or women - who has cashed points in all 11 tournaments.

England's Dominic Barrett, did not bowl in San Marino and Barcelona, but won two gold medals in the World Youth Championships in Orlando, Fla., slipped to fourth with 275 points. Martin Larsen, Sweden, remained in fifth place with 370.

Stuart Williams, England (226) and Robert Andersson, Sweden (224) overtook Thomas Gross Austria, who slipped out of the top 8 in 9th place with 223 points. Barcelona champion Pete Weber (right), United States is 53 points off the top 8 in a tied 16th place with 170 points.

2008EBT10NicoleSanders_small.jpg 2008WECNinaFlack_small.jpg Nicole Sanders (left), Netherlands, landed in third place in Barcelona after falling to Weber in the opening match of the stepladder finals. As the top ranked woman, Sanders claimed 100 ranking points to move from third to second place with 415 points, trailing leader Penny by 84 points.

Nina Flack (right), Sweden, and Ghislaine van der Tol, Netherlands, who participated in the Orlando WYC, sit in third and fourth place with 382 and 315 points, resp. Veronica Lantto, Sweden, is fifth with 274, followed by Marilyn Planchard, France, with 264.

With the last-minute cancellation of the 12th EBT event, the 2nd Maribor Open Strike Tournament (Sep. 6-14, 2008), the Tour will continue with its sole "premier" tournament, the Ankara Open at Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey from Sep. 13-21, 2008.
