2008 PBA Senior Tour #9
Brazeau ends wins 2008 PBA Senior Tour with victory in Decatur Open
Earns his first career PBA Senior Tour title
Brian Brazeau overcame a 23 pin deficit to defeat Wayne Webb, 245-244, in Tuesday’s championship match to win the PBA Senior Decatur Open. Brazeau's first career PBA Senior Tour title was worth $8,000. Webb built a quick lead after striking in four of his first five frames while Brazeau of Ocala, Fla., started with four spares. Webb also struck in the sixth frame but during his celebration, he strained his calf muscle.
Webb of Sacramento, Calif., did his best to stay in the game, but the pain began to get to him and Brazeau began to take command. Brazeau struck in the fifth-ninth frames.
In the tenth, Webb struck twice and had a 9 count. In order to win, Brazeau needed to strike and get at least an 8-count spare, which is exactly what he did.
"Wayne just got out to a pretty big lead and in the first couple frames I didn't throw the ball well because of nerves," Brazeau said. "Wayne hurt himself in the sixth, but still managed to throw some strikes. He struck in the 10th, and I knew what I had to do. It's very exciting, very overwhelming for me."
In his first match, Brazeau defeated Tom Baker of King, N.C., in three games in the best-of-five match, and then went on to defeat Tom Carter of Rockford, Ill., in three, in the best-of-three match. Brazeau then dispatched of Steve Ferraro of Kingston, N.Y. in the single-elimination game, 203-181, placing him in the championship match against Webb.
"My only strategy was to stay focused and relaxed … when you're bowling a Hall of Famer and Champion like Wayne Webb, you need to throw a lot of strikes," Brazeau said.
The PBA Senior Decatur Open concludes the 2008 PBA Senior Tour season.

Webb dominates second day of qualifying at PBA Senior Decatur Open
Coming off a strong day one, Wayne Webb continued his success and was able to pull ahead of leader Kenny Parks to take the top spot following Monday's Round Two of the PBA Senior Decatur Open at Spare Time Lanes.Webb, of Sacramento, Calif., finished with a total of 3,603 pins, averaging 225.19 over his 16 games. His Monday game scores were: 213, 166, 215, 237, 194, 202, 254, and 247 during the early session.
"I ended up bowling a 250, 240 last couple games, and fortunately I had a good block yesterday to keep me in the chase," Webb said. "For a while, I was leaving open frames in the tenth but at the end, the lanes matched up well with me, so my mistakes didn't matter. I didn't feel like I threw the ball as well as I did yesterday."
Bowlers in the second session tried to catch Webb, but they all came up short. Tom Carter of Rockford, Ill. finished second with 3,557 and Kenny Parks, of East Chicago, Ind. finished strong in third with 3,500 pins.

Parks leads first round at the PBA Senior Decatur Open
Despite suffering from swelling in his back, Kenny Parks was able to overcome the pain to finish with 1,900 pins during the early session on Sunday, and held on for the lead in first-round action at the PBA Senior Decatur Open at Spare Time Lanes.Parks of East Chicago, Indiana, was the only bowler on A Squad to have all 8 games over 200 with scores of: 215, 277, 257, 239, 258, 227, 214 and 213.
"I'm really happy," Parks said. "I was just trying to get through the block. My back was really swelled up this morning. I was actually hoping to switch to the later block, but I just tried to manage the pain and get through it. "I had the right ball in my hand … I used a new ball, I didn't even throw it until today. I am sure glad to be leading, especially with my back. So far, so good."
Wayne Webb (right), of Sacramento, Calif. chased Parks in the second session, but came up short 25 pins.Parks hopes to keep his back in check and continue his success.
"I have a really good chance to be the Player of the Year, but (Tom) Baker's really close," Parks said. "I'm trying to hold off some of the big guns here."
