Jeff Fehr achieces perfection to lead RPI Qualifying
Gunning for his first career PBA title, Jeff Fehr will enter the best-of-seven-games match play Round of 16 in the 2005 PBA Regional Players Invitational as the top seed after he led qualifying Wednesday with a 4,144 18-game pinfall.Fehr, a 24-year-old from Cincinnati, averaged 230,22 over his two nine-game qualifying blocks at the National Bowling Stadium to lead the 56-bowler field comprised of the top-eight bowlers from each of the seven PBA Regions' point lists.
"I'm due. I've been close a few times," said Fehr about his chances of winning this week. "I'm ready to take the next step forward." A late entrant this week, Fehr entered the event only after Troy Wollenbecker declined his invitation as a point leader in the Central Region.
Fehr, who shot the event's only 300 in his sixth game of the day, is no stranger to major events on the Regional circuit. He advanced to the semifinals of the 2005 Regional Players Championship before losing to eventual champion, David Beres.
Lennie Boresch Jr., who is looking to add to his 16 career PBA Regional Tour wins, was second with 4,062 while Marc Massie took third with 4,055. Jeff Frankos was fourth with 4,042 and seven-time PBA Tour title winner Hugh Miller rounded out the top five with 4,002.
Doug Becker was 16th with 3,876, beating out Curtis Woods Jr. for the final match play spot by just three pins.
Competition concludes Thursday with the match play rounds of 16 and 8, followed by one-game semifinal matches. The winner of the one-game title match will earn the $10,000 top prize and a spot in the 2006 Dexter Tournament of Champions, the final event of the 2005-06 Denny's PBA Tour season.
