USBC Collegiate Program to conduct 2005 Collegiate Singles Championships in Milwaukee
The United States Bowling Congress Collegiate Program will conduct the second annual Collegiate Singles Championships, a USBC event, on May 22-24, 2005, at Olympic Lanes in Milwaukee.
The event, which debuted at Olympic Lanes in May 2004, will feature the top 16 male and top 16 female collegiate bowlers in the country competing for national titles. The event replaced the Association of College Unions-International National Championships as the premier individual college bowling event supported by USBC Collegiate.
Eligible participants must be a full-time student enrolled in the Spring 2004 semester at a higher education institution (a minimum of 12 credit hours undergraduate or six credit hours graduate required); possess a USBC Collegiate membership or pay a $20 non-member participation fee; and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) as determined by the college at which they are enrolled. Student-athletes have a maximum of four years eligibility in the Collegiate Singles Championships.
Qualifying for the national finals will be held at the four Intercollegiate Bowling Championships Sectional Qualifier sites - Allentown, Pa.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Fairview Heights, Ill.; and San Jose, Calif. - on March 18, 2005. All participants will bowl six games with total pinfall determining final standings. The top four finishers in each division (male and female) at each IBC Sectional Qualifier site will advance to the Collegiate Singles Championships.
At the national finals, all 16 participants in each division will bowl eight qualifying games to determine seeding for the match play competition. In match play, participants will compete in a best-of-five, single-elimination bracket, with winners in each division being crowned as champions of the 2005 Collegiate Singles Championships.
The entry fee for the Collegiate Singles Championships is $30 per participant. Multiple entries are not accepted. Participants may bowl at any Sectional Qualifier location. Participation as an individual in singles competition does not constitute a year of USBC Collegiate eligibility. There is no limit to the number of participants from any university.
