ABC Tournament team champions honored in Detroit
In front of more than 500 fellow bowlers, American Bowling Congress Championships Tournament Regular Team winner S&B Pro Shop #1 (Top row from left: Joe Krajenke, Fred Bauss and Kerry Kreft. Bottom row from left: David Ewald and Mark Moore) of Clinton Township, Mich., was presented with the Joe Norris Trophy on Monday., August 23rd.The team, which shot 3,268 in early April to win the trophy named after the late Detroit legend, was honored before the 68th annual John P. Gavie Invitational Tournament at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich.
The unique Gavie tournament, which featured a full house of 94 five-player teams, is the traditional kick-off to the bowling season in the Detroit area.
"It is still amazing when you think about all the teams we beat," team captain Joe Krajenke said. "Now that we are finally getting back into the bowling season, everyone is saying congrats. It's really starting to mean a lot."
Krajenke led the team with a 713 series and was followed by David Ewald (690), 1999 Team All-Events champion Kerry Kreft (643), Fred Bauss (617) and Mark Moore (605). S&B Pro Shop #1 will look to defend its title in early March when it competes in the 102nd ABC Tournament at the Baton Rouge River Center.
