Mexicans Iliana Lomeli and Sandra Gongora win Girls Doubles

Mexicans Iliana Lomeli and Sandra Gongora (r-l) teamed to win the Girls Doubles event at the 8th World Youth Championships in Guam. Lomeli, who won the doubles title in the American Zone Youth Championships last month, and Gongora averaged 205,5 on the long-oil pattern at Central Lanes in Agana. Gongora posted the second-best 1315 score and Lomeli added 1151 for 2466, six-game total to lead Team USA's Jennifer Petrick and Stephanie Nation by 50 pins. The Americans earned the silver medal with 2416 and an average of 201,33. Only the top two finished with a 200-plus average.
The other thirty-one duos representing 17 countries finished below 200 average. Bronze went to Francys Alvarez and Olga Arandia from Venezuela with 2346, 195,5 average, one spare ahead of the second U.S. double, Anita Manns and Olivia Sandham, at 2338.
Apple Posadas from the Philippines was the best bowler with 1361 pinfall total including the two highest games of 257 and 254. Unfortunately, her teammate K-Ann Lopez couldn't match her pace (956) and the duo had to settle for 9th place at 2317.
