    Williams sweeps Agerbo to win gold in Masters at Men's World Championships 2008

    Masters concludes the Men's World Championships 2008 in Thailand

    The 44-time PBA champion flew past his opponent in the first two games with back-to-back 256 games and secured the victory with a 228-224 win in the third game.

    Legendary Walter Ray Williams Jr. captures gold medals in Singles at Men's World Championships 2008

    2008MWCSinglesGoldWalterRayWilliams.jpg Team USA's Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Ocala, Fla., added to his legendary career Friday by rallying to defeat Germany's Kai Günther, 213-198, for the singles gold medal at the 2008 World Tenpin Bowling Association Men's World Championships.

    "To win any event and be a world champion in a truly international tournament like this, it's obviously very special," said Williams, the Professional Bowlers Association and United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famer who is making his Team USA debut this week. "This adds to my other world championships (with the PBA)." The 2008 Men's World Championships marks the much anticipated first appearance of professionals in major WTBA competition thanks to a change in legislation last August.

    Bok-Eum, Page, Torgersen win gold, silver and bronze in All Events

    Basil Al-Anzi from Kuwait squeezed in the top 4 in the Singles preliminaries at the Men's World Championships in Thailand in the fifth and final squad. The Arab, who started with a high game of 266, finished with back-to-back 220s to become the fourth player who cracked the 1300-bar on the very tough long oil pattern at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan.

    20080828ShalinZulkifli.jpg Shalin Zulkifli has etched yet another success story in her bowling career by taking up a prominent role in the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA).

    She is now a member of the WTBA coaching and technical committee, a post rarely given to a female bowler.

    Last weekend, she attended the first committee meeting in Bangkok to discuss the rules and format and current trends in the world of bowling. She came out of it refreshed and inspired to make changes.

The lefty topped the previous fourth seed, Shu Liang-Chen, Chinese Taipei (1283) by 12 pins with 1295 pinfall total and an average of 215.83.

    Germany's Günther leads Singles Day One at Men's World Championships

    2008MWCKaiGunther.jpg Germany's Kai Günther took a surprising lead after day one of the Singles event in the Men's World Championships 2008 at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

    Günther, who wasn't nominated for the team event, felled 1,317 pins in the first of three squads today, an average of 219.50 over six games, to lead a field of 200 (out of total 330) players.

    United States beats Korea in roll-off to win gold in the team event at Men's World Championships

    SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand (August 21-31, 2008)

     Team USA won its second consecutive five-player team gold medal at the 2008 World Tenpin Bowling Association Men's World Championships in a dramatic tiebreaker Wednesday.

    After the two teams tied in the one-game finals at 1,084, Team USA's Rhino Page of Topeka, Kan., defeated Korea's Kim Tae-Young, 49-39, in the one-player, ninth-and-10th frame roll-off.

    Germany in provisional pole position after Squad 2 has finished the Team preliminaries at Men's Worlds

    Malaysia, then Mexico break MWC record for one Team game

    2008MWCTeamGermany.jpg Germany is the surprise leader after the 26 5-player teams of Squad 2 have completed their six-game series in the Team event at the Men's World Championships 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand.

    Tobias Gäbler, David Canady, Marco Baade, Jens Nickel and Achim Grabowski (pictured with Kai Günther), who started the day as the second-best team of their squad and in 8th place overall with 2985 3-game total, rolled three consistent games, 1062, 1047 and 1051 (3160) on the short oil pattern (34 feet) to lead Squad 2 after six games with 6145 and an average of 204.83.

    The Norwegians felled 3198 pins in the morning squad, an average of 213.20, to lead the field of 54 teams into the final day of the preliminaries on Wednesday. Former PBA exempt bowler Tore Torgersen led the team and the entire squad with 692. Per Kristian Eide had 662, Glenn Morten Pedersen 655, Petter Hansen 597 and Mads Sandbækken 592.

    The Norwegians posted a 3198 3-game total, an average of 213.20, on the 43-feet long oil pattern what must be one of the toughest patterns ever in the 54-year history of WTBA World Championships.

    Former PBA exempt bowler Tore Torgersen led the team and the entire squad with 692. Per Kristian Eide had 662, Glenn Morten Pedersen 655, Petter Hansen 597 and Mads Sandbækken 592.

    Korea beats Japan to win the gold medal in Trios at Men's World Championships

    Both U.S. Trios eliminated in the semifinals

    Bok-Eum (five-bagger in frames 3-7), Ki-Bong (seven-bagger in frames 2-8) and Tae-Young, who went off the sheet from the seventh frame, put the match out of reach for the Japanese well before the final frame.

    Korea leads both trios from USA and Norway before the final squad at Men's World Championship

    Choi Bok-Eum (left), the only player from the Korean national team 2006 and winner of the silver medal in Trios, Asian Singles champion Choi Ki-Bong (center) and Kim Tae-Young (right) started the day in 13th place in Squad 3 and 33rd among the 109 trios from 57 countries behind a 1724 series on long oil, an average of 191.56. Bok-Eum (748), Ki-Bong (705) and Tae-Young (656) added 2109 today for 3833 pinfall total and an average of 212.94.

    Starting the day in 9th place among 109 trios from 57 countries and fourth in Squad 2, the Americans rolled games of 643, 672 and 706 to move past overnight leader England, Philippines and Japan with 2021 3-game pinfall, an average of 224.57.

    Europeans lead World Championships Trios event after Day One on long oil

     With the first 3-game block on the long-oil pattern in the books, three teams from Europe lead the field of 109 trios from 57 countries at the Men's World Championships in Thailand.

    A total of 10 trios or less than 10 per cent of the field, managed to average over 200: 1 trio from Squad 1, 5 from Squad 2 and 4 from Squad 3.

    English Trio moved to the top in Squad 2 at 2006 Men's World Championship

    2008MWCDominicBarrettMikeQuarryStuartWilliams.jpg L-R Dominic Barrett, Mike Quarry and Stuart Williams from England overtook the lead in the Trios event in the Men's World Championships Sunday afternoon at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

    The Englishmen had games of 692, 578 and 685 on the long pattern to lead Squad 2 and to beat the previous high score by 109 pins. Barrett, a two-time gold medalist at the Orlando World Youth Championships last month, led the way with 699. 2007 World Ranking Masters champion Willliams added 630, and Quarry, a silver medalist in Doubles at the Men's Worlds in Korea 2006, contributed 626 for 1955 3-game total and an average of 217.22.
