The PBA International-World Bowling Tour Thailand, which concludes Friday at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl Paragon in Bangkok, may have a significant influence on the top eight places on the 2018 Go Bowling! PBA Tour earnings list as well as the 2018 World Bowling Tour points race.
The PBA Tour earnings list involves eight spots in the end-of-season PBA Clash that will be televised on Sunday, Dec. 23, on FOX as the first event in PBA’s historic television package with FOX Sports.
WBT Thailand’s US$32,250 first prize is likely to impact the 2018 earnings race. Heading into the Thailand tournament, the top 10 in 2018 PBA Tour earnings are: Jason Belmonte (left), Anthony Simonsen, Dom Barrett, Andrew Anderson, EJ Tackett, Marshall Kent, Kyle Troup, Jakob Butturff, Bill O’Neill and Tom Smallwood.
The WBT Thailand is also a WBT points event. The top three men and top three women in WBT points for the 2018 season will compete in the World Bowling Tour Men’s and Women’s Finals presented by the PBA which will be contested at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas, for airing on FS1 on Sunday, March 10, at 10 p.m. EST.
The current top five in men’s WBT points are: Anthony Simonsen (right) 1,589; Jason Belmonte 1,118, Kyle Troup 974; Stuart Williams 963, and Andrew Anderson 894. The women’s top five are: Danielle McEwan 2,314; Liz Johnson 1,960; Daria Pajak 1,428; Shannon O’Keefe 1,140 and Clara Guerrero 1,100.

Closing out the month, PBA Xtra Frame on FloBowling will visit North Carolina and California to cover another weekend doubleheader: the PBA50 Storm Invitational at Planet Fun Bowling and Entertainment Center in Shallotte, N.C., and a PBA Regional event, the PBA Double Decker West/Northwest Open presented by Roto Grip from Double Decker Lanes in Rohnert Park, Calif., Saturday and Sunday.
The PBA50 Invitational will involve a field of 14 including 2018 PBA50 Player of the Year Michael Haugen Jr., PBA50 Cup winner Brian Kretzer, PBA60 Player of the Year Ron Mohr, Walter Ray Williams Jr., Norm Duke, Parker Bohn III, Lennie Boresch Jr., Amleto Monacelli, Ryan Shafer, Bob Learn Jr., Pete Weber, Harry Sullins, Brian Voss and Johnny Petraglia.

PBA stars to compete in World Bowling Men Championships in Hong Kong
Several PBA stars from around the world will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in the 2018 CGSE • Million Tinkle World Men Championships Nov. 23-Dec. 5 in Hong Kong, including Team USA members Andrew Anderson, Chris Barnes, Jakob Butturff, Tommy Jones, EJ Tackett and Kyle Troup.
Barnes and Jones are the veterans on Team USA, having made their debuts in 1995 and 1996, respectively. Butturff also was a member of the 2017 gold medal winning U.S. team. Anderson, Tackett and Troup will be making their debuts as members of adult Team USA.
The World Men Championships are held every four years. Competition includes singles, doubles, trios, five-man team, all-events and masters events.
PBA Regional Update: Walter Ray Williams Jr. wins 108th PBA title in Canton
PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. (featured photo) of Oxford, Fla., defeated Brian Kretzer of Dayton, Ohio, 237-203, to take the first prize in the PBA50 Canton South Open presented by Roto Grip at Cherokee Lanes in Canton, Ga., Sunday, improving his all-time PBA titles record to 108.
The 58-year-old Williams qualified in fourth place for the stepladder finals with a 3-5 match play record and a 16-game total of 3,699 pins, including match play bonus pins, and then won three consecutive matches to earn the $1,500 first prize. Kretzer posted an 8-0 match play record and had 4,059 pins to qualify first, 360 pins ahead of Williams, but had to settle for the $900 second prize.
Williams, the all-time PBA Tour titles leader with 47, also has won 33 standard PBA Regional titles, 12 PBA50 Tour and 16 PBA50 Regional titles.
In the first stepladder match Williams defeated Stoney Baker of Canton, Ga., 10-9 in a one-ball roll-off after they tied, 195-195. Williams then disposed of Greg Thomas of Irmo, S.C., 226-181, in the semifinal match.
Kyle Mayberry (with host Adrian Guzman, right) of Mechanicsburg, Ohio defeated Zach Doty of Campbellsville, Ky., 204-189, to win the PBA Florence Bowling Center Central Open in Florence, Ky., Saturday.
Mayberry, who earned his second regional title and $2,000 for the one-day event, downed JR Raymond of Clinton Twp., Mich., 2-1, while Doty blanked Graham Fach of Canada, 2-0, in the best-of-three-game semifinal round to set up the championship match.
Brad Miller (left) of Lees Summit, Mo., defeated Tony Manna Jr. of Papillion, Neb., 2,930-2,854, to win the PBA Mockingbird Lanes Midwest Open and Jeff Johnson of Freeport, Ill., defeated Steve Rogers of Manteno, Ill., 3,045-2,922, to win the PBA50 Mockingbird Lanes Midwest Open in Omaha in a Sunday PBA Midwest Region doubleheader.
Miller won his third career regional title along with a $2,300 prize for his 13-game pinfall total. Johnson won his first PBA50 regional title and $2,000.
Ray Edwards of Middle Island, N.Y. and partner Greg Ostrander of Freehold, N.J. (from left, with promotion director Jess Dalton), defeated Don Herrington of Ballston Lake, N.Y. and Jeff Voght of Canajoharie, N.Y., 388-460, 421-384, 431-406, in the best-of-three-game title match of the PBA50/PBA Millsboro Lanes Doubles Sunday in Millsboro, Del.
The win was the 21st career regional title for Edwards, the reigning PBA50 East Region Player of the Year, and the third for Ostrander. Each earned $2,000.
In the best-of-three semifinal round, Edwards and Ostrander defeated Darryl Bower of Middletown, Pa. and Kerry Smith of New Holland, Pa., 2-0, while Herrington and Voght eliminated Mike Taylor of Havertown, Pa. and Dave Knight Jr. of Glassboro, N.J., 2-1.
Jacob Cutler from College Station, Texas, completed his quest for his first PBA title, throwing three strikes in his 10th frame for a 258-254 victory over Trey Sledge of Amarillo, Texas, to win the PBA Lubbock Sports Southwest Challenge presented by Ebonite Sunday at South Plains Lanes in Lubbock, Texas.
After Sledge, a non-member, struck out in his half of the final frame, Cutler matched Sledge to claim the winner’s check of $2,000 with a 21-game total of 5,067 pins, 52 ahead of Sledge. Cutler had built a sizable lead by winning his first six games, averaging 252, but in game seven of the eight-game round robin match play finals, Cutler hit his first road bump, falling to Brian Bledsoe of Albuquerque, N.M., 200-172. At the same time, Sledge was winning his fifth match in a row, 267-253, over Scotty Pope from Midland, Texas, to set up the pivotal position round match.
Josh Blanchard (left) of Mesa, Ariz.; Barry Tate of Wenatchee, Wash., and Catherine Rawsthorne of Federal Way, Wash., were victorious in a PBA Northwest Region tripleheader at Paradise Lanes Sunday.
Blanchard posted a 10-2 match play record and a 20-game total of 4,959 pins, including match play bonus pins, to win the PBA Always Painting Northwest Open, a standard PBA Regional event. Blanchard held off red-hot Jakob Butturff of Tempe, Ariz., to win his 10th PBA regional title and the $2,000 first prize.
Tate won the PBA50 Gary Mage Northwest Open portion of the tripleheader with an 8-2 match play record and an 18-game total of 4,061 pins to top Hugh Miller of Mercer Island, Wash., by 31 pins for his second PBA50 Regional title and a $1,500 first prize.
Rawsthorne had a 5-3 match play record and knocked down 3,469 total pins for her 16 games to top fellow non-PBA member Courtney Couch of Puyallup, Wash., for the win in the Diamondback Delivery Service Jeanne Naccarato Women’s Open to earn the $1,000 prize.
The September PBA Regional schedule concludes this weekend with the Bluffton Central/Midwest Open at EZ Bowl in Bluffton, Ind.; the PBA50 J&L Sports South Open at Paradise Lanes in Spartanburg, S.C., and the Double Decker West/Northwest Open presented by Roto Grip in Rohnert Park, Calif. The Double Decker event will be live-streamed by PBA Xtra Frame on FloBowling.

A footnote involving Walter Ray Williams Jr.‘s (left) 108th PBA victory in Canton, Ga., over the weekend was the fact that he also bowled his 107th 300 game in PBA competition en route to the title.
He remains second on the all-time PBA perfect game list behind fellow Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III (right) who has bowled 114 perfect games in PBA competition at all levels. Bohn has bowled 21,748 games in PBA Tour, PBA Regional, PBA50 Tour and PBA50 Regional events which means he has bowled a 300 game once in every 190.7 games.
