Lindsay Boomershine of Perry, Utah, and Kyle Troup of Taylorsville, N.C., averaged 217.50 as a team to set the pace in the PBA-PWBA Xtra Frame Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles tournament after two of four squads have completed their seven games of qualifying Friday at Copperfield Bowl in Houston, Texas.

Boomershine (right), 31-year-old right-hander, who is looking to win her first PWBA title in the tournament affectionately called “The Luci”, toppled 1,445 pins in A squad, including games of 213, 201, 203, 213, 240, 194 and 181.

Troup (left), 26, who won his second PBA title with fellow two-handed bowler Jesper Svensson in the MaineQuarterly.com Mark Roth/Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championship in April, added 1,600 to lead the field of 79 mixed doubles with 3,045 total.

Bryanna Caldwell Cote (1,459) of Red Rock, Ariz. and Stuart Williams (1,574) of England were just eleven pins behind in second place after leading B squad with 3,033.

Cajsa Wegner (1,450) of Sweden and Mike Austin (1,554) of Houston, Texas, were further 29 pins back in third place with 3004 and were followed by 2002 “The Luci” winner Diandra Asbaty (1,441) of Chicago and three-time PBA Player of the Year, Jason Belmonte (1,526) of Australia in fourth place with 2,967.

With C and D squads still having to bowl their qualifying blocks, two-time defending champions Shannon O’Keefe (1,425) of O’Fallon, Ill., and Bill O’Neill (1,436) of Langhorne, Pa., sit in 16th place with 2,861.

The 18th edition of the “The Luci” features a capacity field of 160 teams representing a stellar field of Professional Bowlers Association, Professional Women’s Bowlers Association, collegiate, amateur and international champions from 14 different countries as well as a number of grassroots league bowlers who have participated in the event since it began in 2000.

The tournament has surpassed $800,000 in contributions for breast cancer research and assistance for those who may not be able to afford proper care.

The tournament continues Saturday with qualifying squads C and D bowling their seven games at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The top 40 teams after all four squads advance to Sunday’s five-game cashers’ round at 8:30 a.m.

After 12 games, the top eight teams will advance to the eight-game round-robin match play finals at 12:30 p.m. Final standings will be based on total pinfall for 20 combined team games (40 individual games).

The winners, if PBA and/or PWBA members, also will win PBA and/or PWBA Tour titles.
