Brunswick signs agreement to add Radical Bowling Balls

2013RadicalBowlingLogo_small.jpg Brunswick Bowling today announced a major deal with Radical Bowling – the high-tech ball company owned by notable bowling ball innovator Phil Cardinale. The agreement will move the production of Radical bowling balls to the Brunswick manufacturing plant, and the brand will be renamed Radical Bowling Technologies. Cardinale will continue his role in the development, sales and promotion of the Radical Bowling Technologies product line.

Silicone is Not a Four Letter Word

We'll say it right up front - silicone in lane conditioners is a good thing. That's right…it's a good thing. In modern chemistry there are no other additives that perform, and are as safe, as silicone. It's that simple. The idea of using silicon in place of carbon did not come to be until the early 1900's. The first patent ever issued for a silicon containing chemical was not issued until the 1940's. This is when the term silane was developed, later to be known as silicone.

AMF Bowling Worldwide files for bankruptcy-court protection


AMF Bowling Worldwide, the world's largest operator of bowling centers, filed for bankruptcy-court protection Tuesday after being squeezed by a cash crunch and a year-long failure to find a buyer for the business, as reported in Bowlers Journal International Cyber Report's Nov. 15 issue. This is the company's second attempt at a re-organizational bankruptcy, having last tried the strategy in 2001, which led to a sell-off of its overseas centers. It now operates 262 bowling centers in the U.S.

Ebonite International hires Jim Cormier as Global Marketing VP

Cormier has 25 years of experience in the Sporting Goods industry, working with such storied brands as Nicklaus Golf Equipment Company, The Coleman Company, Head Sports, Fila and Prince Sports Group. Cormier is looking forward to working in the bowling industry, particularly with Ebonite International. He will work closely with Bob Reid, recently named Vice President of Global Sales.

Aloma Bowling Centers gain with Gaines

Experienced industry veteran joins ABC as General Manager of Aloma Bowl

The former PWBA champion is a USBC Silver Level Coach and was an Assistant Coach to the Junior Team USA. The Aloma Bowling Centers with 144 combined lanes are the premier entertainment centers in Central Florida, with locations in Orlando (Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment Center), Winter Park (Aloma Bowl) and Sanford (Airport Lanes).

Brunswick Bowling promotes Gary Smith to Vice President of International Sales

Smith is a veteran of Brunswick and the bowling industry. He began his career with Brunswick in 1988. Most recently, Smith held the position of director of marketing of capital equipment. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Smith was formally educated in Intelligence Operations and Analysis, followed by extensive education in sales and marketing.

Bowltech and QubicaAMF announce potential transaction

The two companies have entered into a non-binding letter of intent for Bowltech to purchase QubicaAMF, which would result in the largest bowling products company in the world

BowltechLogo_small.jpgBowltech International B.V. and QubicaAMF Worldwide, SarL announced today that they have entered into a non-binding letter of intent for Bowltech to acquire QubicaAMF for an undisclosed cash purchase price.The proposed transaction remains subject to due diligence and various other conditions, including full agreement on definitive transaction documentation. The combination of Bowltech and QubicaAMF will result in the largest bowling products company in the world.

Industry veteran Mike Quitter to retire from Ebonite International

Quitter has been in the bowling industry for 42 years, and at Ebonite International for 25+ of those years. During his tenure, the company's international business has grown, and the overall profitability of this portion of the business has been among Quitter's proudest accomplishments.

Brunswick signs PBA pro Tom Hess to pro staff

201011PBATomHess_small.jpgBrunswick Bowling has announced that Tom Hess (pictured) has joined its Pro Staff. Hess of Urbandale, Iowa, captured his first career PBA national title in 2011 when he won the USBC Masters. After the PBA National and Regional seasons were complete, he was named the 2010-2011 PBA Midwest Region Player of the Year. Hess was also the 2003 PBA Midwest Region Rookie of the Year, a three-time Iowa State Champion, and was elected to the Greater Des Moines Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2011.

Brunswick hires Parker Bohn III as product specialist

201112PBAParkerBohn_small.jpgBrunswick Bowling today announced that it has hired PBA Hall of Fame bowler Parker Bohn III as a product specialist in its Consumer Products division. Bohn, who has been on Brunswick's professional bowling staff for 24 years, has traveled the world as a professional bowler not only competing, but also giving seminars and clinics to bowlers of all skill levels. His new responsibilities will include representing Brunswick at industry events and visiting pro shops and bowling centers throughout the United States and around the world.

Doug Dukes joins Kegel's Technical Support Team

2012KegelTSDougDukes_small.jpg Kegel has announced that Doug Dukes has joined the Technical Support Team as a Technical Sales Specialist on April 23, 2012 and will be performing Tech support duties from his home in Delaware. He will also spend much of his time traveling to assist distributors with sales, installations, and general service as well as representing Kegel at tournaments, seminars, and tradeshows worldwide. Dukes has been in the bowling industry since 1998 and has worked as pro shop owner and operator before moving onto the mechanical side of the business.

Brunswick signs PBA pro Tony Reyes to Pro Staff

2012BrunswickProStaffTonyReyes_small.jpgBrunswick Bowling has announced that Tony Reyes (pictured) is the newest professional bowler to join its Pro Staff. Reyes, who joined the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) in 1997, has one PBA Tour title to his credit. During the 2006 Motor City Open, he became the 18th bowler in PBA history to roll a 300 game on television, later winning that tournament. Reyes also has 10 PBA Regional Titles, and a total of 24 career 300 games.

Kulick's commercial shoot took place in Irvine, Calif., on a really looooooong lane, created and installed by Murrey International.

Brunswick named Official Lane Provider at USBC Open Championships

For the USBC Open Championships, Brunswick has built forty-eight exclusive bowling lanes within the Baton Rouge River Center. This year, Brunswick and USBC signed a two-year agreement for continued sponsorship of USBC tournaments. 900 Global signs Brian Voss

Voss (pictured) has won twenty-five titles on the PBA National tour including the PBA National Championship. He was named PBA Player of the Year in 1988 and became the seventh member of the PBA to reach the million dollar mark in earnings. Voss joins 2008 Tournament of Champions winner Michael Haugen Jr. and 2011 USBC Queens Champion Missy Parkin as 900 Global staff members.

He assumed this position February 1, 2012. Harbuck is a 25-year veteran of the licensing and promotions industries where he developed national licensing and consumer promotion campaigns for companies such as Ford Motor Company, McDonald's, Amoco and Texaco.

DV8 Bowling adds Shannon O'Keefe as first female bowler to its Pro Staff

2011WWCShannonOKeefe_small.jpgDV8 Bowling has added its first female bowler, Team USA member Shannon "Shan-O-Mac" O'Keefe, to its pro staff. The 2007 World Champion in Singles, who lives in Arlington, Texas, has been a member of Team USA for eight consecutive years. In addition O'Keefe (pictured) brought home the gold medals in the Trio's and Team event at the 2011 Women's World Championships in Hong Kong. O'Keefe also finished first in the 2009 PBA Women's Series Tour Trials and has 22 perfect games.

Kegel launches new Pinsetter Parts Division

Kegel may be known for lane maintenance, but their mission has always been to provide solutions for the bowling industry. Founded by master pinsetter mechanics and continuing to employ many mechanics as sales and technical staff, Kegel has decided to return to their roots, the pinsetter. The first example of their work will be a catalog of 40 common replacement parts for the A2 pinsetters. Kegel is targeting the launch of this new product line for spring 2012.

Located in Irvine, Calif., Master Industries manufactures hundreds of performance bowling accessories including wrist supports, shoe accessories, and pro shop products. The manufacturing plant in Irvine will remain open and operate under the name Master Industries Worldwide. It will continue to produce and grow the current product line.
