2012 USBC Women's Championships comes to a close

Reno to host the Women's Championships and the USBC Open Championships in 2013, marking the first time both tournaments will be held in the same host city in the same year

Baker rolled a 784 series in doubles, 735 in singles and 707 in team to take the Scratch All-Events crown with a 2,226 total and also teamed with Elysia Current (r.) to win Scratch Doubles and tie for the top spot in Diamond Doubles with 1,480.

Lindsay Baker leads three events at USBC Women's Championships

She teamed with Elysia Current (r.) of Ephrata, Pa., for the third-highest doubles score in history, 1,480, which was enough to take the top spot in Scratch and Diamond Doubles. Baker led the way with a 784 series and added 735 in singles and 707 in team to also take the lead in Scratch All-Events with 2,226, also the third-highest score in tournament history.

California's Pam Pancoast doubles up at USBC Women's Championships

Kelly, Pluhowsky roll into Scratch Doubles lead; Team from Hawaii shakes up standings

2012USBCWCPamPancoast_small.jpgPam Pancoast of Lomita, Calif., saved her best for last at the 2012 USBC Women's Championships as she rolled a 300 in her final game to take the lead in Scratch Singles and Scratch All-Events at the National Bowling Stadium. After a 730 series in team and 710 in doubles, she finished with 779 in Singles, just one pin ahead of previous leader Tammy Lewis of San Jose, Calif. Her 2,219 all-events score is the third-highest in 93 years of Women's Championships competition.

Past champion rolls first perfect game of the 93rd USBC Women's Championships

Betty Brooks of Lakewood, Calif., etched her name in the record books at the USBC Women's Championships when she claimed the Ruby All-Events crown at the 2010 event in El Paso, Texas, and this week, she claimed another spot in tournament history with the first 300 game of the 2012 tournament. Brooks tossed 12 consecutive strikes during singles to become one of just 16 competitors in the 93-year history of the event to accomplish the feat.

New leaders in three events at USBC Women's Championships

2012USBCWCSharonAronson_small.jpgSharon Aronson of Turlock, Calif., Tammy Lewis of San Jose, Calif., and Dianne Kost of Aurora, Colo., each made their way to the top of the leaderboard at the USBC Women's Championships on June 2. Aronson (pictured), a 52-year-old right-hander and California USBC Association Hall of Famer, blistered the lanes at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., with 761 in singles, 721 in doubles and 685 in team for a 2,167 total to take the lead in Scratch All-Events.

New Jersey team posts big numbers at USBC Women's Championships

Using experience gained from winning the 2010 NCAA National Championship at Fairleigh Dickinson University, the members of Time of Our Life II of Saddle Brook, N.J., found similar success at the USBC Women's Championships on May 26. They had games of 1,097, 1,101 and 1,084 for a 3,282 total, which landed the team in the top spot in Scratch Team. They received an additional 30 pins of handicap per game to also reach the Diamond Team lead with 3,372.

Mini Tvaska extends participation record at USBC Women's Championships

2012USBCWCMiniTvaskaCeremony_small.jpgMini Tvaska (second from left) of St. Petersburg, Fla., was the talk of the town as she extended her United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships participation record with her 66th consecutive appearance May 18-19. The 94-year-old was honored with a plaque, fruit bouquet and other gifts and graciously greeted the local media to talk about her career on the lanes at the USBC Women's Championships and at home.

California bowler has memorable debut at 93rd USBC Women's Championships

Brittany Pratt of Citrus Heights, Calif. (pictured), used the momentum of a 298 game to take the lead in Scratch and Diamond Singles at the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships on May 13. The 21-year-old right-hander rolled games of 192, 298 and 246 to finish with a 736 series at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev. She entered the 2012 event with a 201 average and received an additional 19 pins of handicap per game to finish with a 793 handicap total.

Two bowlers celebrate 50 years at USBC Women's Championship

2012USBCWCMaryLouBaird_small.jpgJudy Dugas (l.) of Lafayette, La., and Mary Lou Baird (r.) of Steger, Ill., both made their USBC Women's Championships debuts at the 1963 event in Memphis, Tenn., and they recently joined elite company by making their 50th-consecutive tournament appearances. Dugas and Baird became the third and fourth bowlers of the 2012 USBC Women's Championships to reach the historic mark.

New York's Beckie Eynon sets All-Events pace at USBC Women's Championships

2012USBCWCBeckieEynon_small.jpgBeckie Eynon of Apalachin, N.Y., set the mark all bowlers will be looking up to as she took the Scratch All-Events lead at the USBC Women's Championships this week. The 38-year-old right-hander, a Southern Tier USBC Hall of Famer, rolled a 722 series in doubles, 708 in team and 663 in singles on her way to a 2,093 all-events score at the National Bowling Stadium. Eynon entered the 2012 tournament with a 226 average, so she was not eligible for any handicap.

2012USBCWCRibbonCutting_small.jpg The 2012 USBC Women's Championships kicked off with a bang Saturday as the first of more than 30,000 bowlers took to the lanes at the National Bowling Stadium. Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority Chairman of the Board Dwight Dortch and local and bowling-industry dignitaries helped welcome the participants back to 'The Biggest Little City in the World'. The festivities featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the traditional Mass Ball Shot and live entertainment.

Entry deadline extended for 2012 USBC Women's Championships

2012USBCWCLogo_small.jpg There's no experience like competing on the lanes at the National Bowling Stadium, and more than 30,000 bowlers already are scheduled to be in Reno, Nev., for the 2012 USBC Women's Championships. Those who have not yet entered still have time to be part of the action as the entry deadline has been extended to April 1. There are even some weekend spots available for the event, which begins April 14 and will run for 86 consecutive days, concluding July 8.
