In the new 12-and-under division, Anthony Neuer of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and Madison Bailey of Rocklin, California, earned victories.
The top youth bowlers in the country will head to the Buffalo, N.Y., area starting this weekend with dreams of earning spots on Junior Team USA and with more than $200,000 in scholarships on the line at the 2014 Junior Gold Championships. The event, which is presented by Ebonite, Columbia 300, Track and Hammer, officially gets underway with the first round of qualifying on Monday. A record 2,770 USBC youth members are eligible to participate in the event.
The Junior Gold program has set a record for memberships for the 2013-2014 season and the Junior Gold Championships presented by Track, Columbia 300, Ebonite and Hammer could break last year's record for number of participants. The Junior Gold program recently surpassed the 5,000-memberships barrier for the first time. The membership total shatters the record of 4,376 USBC Youth members who joined the Junior Gold program last season.
Beginning this year at the 2014 Junior Gold Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., all adult spectators will need to have an event pass to enter any of the bowling venues. Spectators 18 and under may attend free of charge. A one-day pass will cost $10 per adult and an all-week pass will cost
$20 if purchased by July 1. All proceeds from sale of the passes will go to the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund to support youth bowling initiatives.
The North Pointe Junior Gold Championships will grow in 2014 when a new age division is added to the event, allowing younger bowlers to get involved in the sport's most prestigious youth event. The new U12 division for boys and girls will feature bowlers 12 and under, joining their counterparts in the U15 and U20 divisions in competing for national titles. The championships will take place in Buffalo, N.Y.
