Defeats Ashley Dunn in a rematch of last year's finals, 10-7, to earn his second straight $64,000 scholarship package

The Teen Masters Grand Championship featured a re-match of last season's finalists, which Young also won. He won his second straight $64,000 scholarship package – the richest scholarship prize in the sport – by beating Ashley Dunn (r.) of Palmdale, Calif., in a one-ball roll-off after the best-of-two-game match ended in a tie.

Bowling.com becomes title sponsor of USBC Youth Open Championships

USBC Youth Open to give girls their own divisions in 2014

2012USBCYouthOpenLogo_small.jpg The United States Bowling Congress Youth Open Championships will have separate singles and doubles divisions for girls in 2014, and the Youth Open West Region tournament also will return in 2014. The 2014 Youth Open will be held at AMF Thruway Lanes in Cheektowaga, N.Y., from July 10-27. Cal Bowl in Lakewood, Calif., located near Disneyland and other tourist destinations in southern California, will host the West Region tournament June 21-22.

Junior Gold has record-setting year

For the third consecutive year, the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships established a record for number of participants and the Junior Gold program also set a membership record for the 2012-2013 season. For the first time in tournament history, the Championships broke the 2,000-participant mark as 2,080 United States Bowling Congress Youth bowlers took to the lanes in Detroit in 2013, an 8-percent increase over last year's total.

USBC and BPAA to invest $5 million in support of new youth membership program

The new program significantly lowers cost for families and establishes a bowling industry field staff dedicated to youth initiatives. Beginning August 1, 2014, the new USBC Youth membership will be offered by International Bowling Campus (IBC) Youth Development at a price of $4.

Four youth bowlers take national titles at North Pointe Junior Gold Championships

2013NPJGCWinners_small.jpg Four youth bowlers rose to the occasion and captured national youth titles Friday as the 2013 North Pointe Junior Gold Championships presented by Track, Columbia 300, Ebonite and Hammer came to a close. Wesley Low of Palmdale, Calif., Julia Bond of Aurora, Ill., Cortez Schenck of Phoenix and Taylor Russell of Tupelo, Miss., all came away with championships in their respective divisions at Sunnybrook Lanes.

North Pointe Junior Gold Championships begin Monday in Detroit

Record 2328 youth bowlers to compete at six bowling centers for nearly $275,000 in scholarships and spots on Junior Team USA

2013NPJGCLogo_small.jpg The nation's top youth bowlers will descend upon the Detroit metro area starting this weekend to compete for nearly $275,000 in scholarships and spots on Junior Team USA at the 2013 North Pointe Junior Gold Championships. The first round of competition gets underway Monday with a record 2,328 USBC youth members eligible to participate in the event, which is presented by Ebonite, Columbia 300, Track and Hammer.

IBC Youth rolls out first step to USA Bowling National event

2013USABowlingRegionalsAnnounced_small.jpg USA Bowling, the team-based youth program offered through the International Bowling Campus, will hold four regional events this fall as the first step toward a new USA Bowling National event. USA Bowling will grow to eight regional events in 2014 and 16 events will be held in 2015. The 16 regional winners in 2015 will be invited to participate in the first USA Bowling National event in spring 2016.

Junior Team USA roster for PABCON Youth Championships announced

Eight of the top youth bowlers in the United States will travel to Puerto Rico in July to represent Junior Team USA at the 2013 PABCON Youth Championships. The event will be held in Ponce, Puerto Rico, from July 7-12 and features countries in the American Zone competing in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team, All-Events and Masters. Junior Team USA also will compete in the Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas in Sunrise, Fla., from July 28-Aug. 3.

The gift will be used help IBC Youth develop its youth bowling programs. The Youth Education Services (YES) Fund is a united effort by industry leaders in the sport, initiated by BPAA and USBC, dedicated to youth bowling development and marketing.

Under12 division added for 2014 North Pointe Junior Gold Championships

ImageThe North Pointe Junior Gold Championships will grow in 2014 when a new age division is added to the event, allowing younger bowlers to get involved in the sport's most prestigious youth event. The new U12 division for boys and girls will feature bowlers 12 and under, joining their counterparts in the U15 and U20 divisions in competing for national titles. The championships will take place in Buffalo, N.Y.

Missouri youth to receive 2013 USBC Zeb Scholarship

Dakota Fox (pictured) of Palmyra, Mo., has been selected as the 2013 USBC Annual Zeb Scholarship recipient. The $2,500 scholarship is awarded each year to a USBC Youth member who is in their junior or senior year of high school, has a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) and has given back to their community through service. As this year's recipient, Fox will receive an expenses-paid trip to attend the awards ceremony that will be held in conjunction with the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships.

The award annually recognizes one female and one male USBC Youth bowler for exemplary contributions to the sport, academic accomplishments and community involvement. Schnur and Sarich each will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

The annual award recognizes star qualities, including distinguished bowling performance, academic achievement and civic involvement, in a male high school or college student who competes in bowling. The award winner is determined by the United States Bowling Congress Youth Committee.

The award, named in memory of the longtime Erie Community College coach, recognizes leaders in the bowling community who have displayed the courage, determination and ability to develop far-reaching programs of national scope that provide fun and exciting opportunities for collegiate and/or youth bowlers.

Illinois youth coach John Dill to receive David Dahms Coach of the Year Award

Named in honor of the youth bowling leader instrumental in the creation of what now is known as the Junior Gold program, the David Dahms award recognizes a coach who has been actively involved in a USBC Youth program and has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to coaching, sportsmanship and knowledge of USBC Youth rules.

Buffalo to host 2014 North Pointe Junior Gold Championships and USBC Youth Open

The North Pointe Junior Gold Championships, which will be conducted July 12-18, 2014, will utilize six bowling centers in the Buffalo area - AMF Thruway Lanes, Transit Lanes, AMF Airport Lanes, Classic Lanes, Tonawanda Bowling Center and AMF Lancaster Lanes.

Carol Gardner of Houston to receive USBC Youth Volunteer of the Year Award

The prestigious award recognizes an adult volunteer who has displayed outstanding efforts to foster, organize and promote youth bowling at the local, state and/or national levels. For being selected, Gardner will receive an expenses-paid trip to the USBC Convention in Reno, Nev., where she will be presented with the award.

Twelve youth bowlers to receive USBC Gift For Life Scholarships

2013USBCYouthLogo_small.jpgTwelve United States Bowling Congress Youth members have been awarded $1,000 college scholarships through the USBC Gift For Life Scholarships program. Gift For Life Scholarships are given annually to USBC Youth members who need financial assistance to obtain a college education. High school students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) who could show financial need were encouraged to apply.
