VonderHaar (l.) sandwiched his perfect game between games of 188 and 180 for a 668 series during his team event. Sleeper (r.) rolled games of 187, 300 and 266 for a 753 singles series.

Chris Murray rolls fourth 800 series at 2014 USBC Open Championships

California bowler moves into second place in Regular Singles; two bowlers roll perfect games at National Bowling Stadium; 60-Year Club welcomes two new members

The 42-year-old right-hander struggled to string strikes in doubles but found success after getting the right ball in his hands. He rolled games of 268, 266 and 268 to finish his 11th Championships appearance April 30 with an 802 series, which is second in Regular Singles this year at the National Bowling Stadium. Louis Jenkins Jr. of Warr Acres, Okla., leads with 826.

123Bowl.com of Naugatuck, Conn., rolls highest game in USBC Open Championships history

2014USBCOC123Bowlcom_small.jpg The highest team game in 111 years of USBC Open Championships history was rolled Friday night as 123Bowl.com of Naugatuck, Conn. (pictured left), shot 1,299 at the National Bowling Stadium. Beginning in the second frame, the team rallied for 32 consecutive strikes, and 34 out of 35, before a few bad breaks slowed the pace. The group's record effort came between games of 1,009 and 1,073 for a 3,381 total, which is just outside the top 10 in Regular Team.

Father and son take Regular Doubles lead at 2014 USBC Open Championships

Bill Nesbitt makes 50th appearance at Open Championship; Robert McFadden rolls 11th perfect game at National Bowling Stadium

2014USBCOCCarlandClarkPoelzer_small.jpg The father and son duo of Clark and Carl Poelzer of Arden Hills, Minn., raced to the top of the leaderboard at the 2014 USBC Open Championships on April 25 with a 1,465 doubles total. Carl (l.), a 30-year-old right-hander, fired games of 238, 254 and 269 for a 761 set to lead the effort at the National Bowling Stadium, while Clark (r.), a 62-year-old right-hander, added games of 214, 248 and 242 for 704. Scott Pohl and Mike Rose Jr. previously held the Regular Doubles lead with 1,403.

Anthony LaCaze takes All-Events lead at USBC Open Championships

New leaders in Regular Singles and Regular Doubles emerge at National Bowling Stadium; two more 800s rolled

2014USBCOCAnthonyLaCaze_small.jpgAnthony LaCaze (pictured) recorded the fourth-highest All-Events total in 111 years of USBC Open Championships history on his way to the Regular All-Events lead at the 2014 tournament April 21. The 31-year-old right-hander fired sets of 766 in Doubles, 765 in Team and 742 in Singles for a 2,273 total and an average of 252.56. The USBC Open Championships all-events record belongs to Matt McNiel, who shot 2,326 (258.44) to win the 2010 Regular All-Events title.

Maynard Johnson joins 100,000-Pin Club at USBC Open Championships

Three more bowlers celebrate milestones at 2014 event; Jeff Grego tops singles standings at National Bowling Stadium; Three bowlers roll perfect games at 2014 Open Championships

The 83-year-old right-hander entered the 2014 tournament with a career pinfall of 98,753 and needed 1,247 pins to reach the milestone in his 61st USBC Open Championships appearance. At the 2013 event, Johnson became the 17th bowler in tournament history to reach 60 years of participation.

Wisconsin group leads three events at USBC Open Championships

2014USBCOCJanzsHI_small.jpgTim Damerow of Waupun, Wis., posted a career-best 2,228 all-events total to secure the Regular All-Events lead at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on April 4, and he lifted Janz's H.I. of Beaver Dam, Wis. (pictured left), into the top spot in Team All-Events with a 10,363 total, the fourth-highest score in tournament history. Damerow also teamed with Beaver Dam's Joe Janz to take the Regular Doubles lead with 1,378.

Wisconsin team breaks record at 2014 USBC Open Championships

After a close call last year, Motion Plus Lanes of Greenfield, Wis. (pictured), returned to the National Bowling Stadium and left its mark in the USBC Open Championships record books with the highest team score in 111 years of tournament competition. The group posted games of 1,269, 1,177 and 1,115 for a 3,561 total, 23 pins better than the previous record of 3,538, rolled by 2013 Regular Team champion Lodge Lanes Too of Orlando, Fla.

Minnesota bowler rolls perfect game at National Bowling Stadium; Father and son take Regular Doubles lead

The 76-year-old right-hander entered the event just 472 pins shy of the milestone and solidified his place in the records books with a ringing 10 pin in the fifth frame of his third team game at the National Bowling Stadium on April 1.

Losli and Myers held off three other pairings from their four-team group to take the top spot with a 1,343 total. Kathy Tribbey of Cornelius, Ore., and Wade Rees of Spokane Valley, Wash., were close behind with 1,342.

Former PBA standout Curtis Odom leads Regular All-Events; Arizona bowler Keith Miller first to reach 50 years in 2014; first official live stream broadcast will take place March 14 at 2 p.m. EDT

2014USBCOCTerrenceBlevins_small.jpgTerrence Blevins (pictured) of Chicago rolled the first perfect game of the 2014 USBC Open Championships on March 8 and catapulted into the lead in Regular Singles. The 44-year-old right-hander put together 18 consecutive strikes on the way to games of 257 and 300 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., but he came up short in his bid for the event's first 800 series, finishing with 226 for a 783 set. With a career-best all-events total of 2,001, Blevins now is second overall.

Reno welcomes USBC Open Championships for record 12th time

2014USBCOCLogo_small.jpgThe National Bowling Stadium has played a big role in the history of the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, and that tradition continued Friday as the 111th edition of the tournament kicked off in The Biggest Little City in the World. Hundreds of bowlers, fans, friends, family and dignitaries helped usher in the 2014 USBC Open Championships, which will run for 136 days, concluding July 13. It is the event's record 12th trip to Reno and ninth visit to the NBS.

New squad times and tiered pricing for 2015 USBC Open Championships

Online registration will begin at 11 a.m. EDT on March 13

2015USBCOCLogo_small.jpg Registration for the 2015 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships is set to begin March 13, and changes for the tournament's first visit to El Paso, Texas, include variable pricing and new squad times. USBC will implement a tiered pricing structure for entry fees based on the day of the week teams choose to compete. The new squad schedule means no early mornings or late nights for competitors.

Track Bowling to sponsor Showcase Lanes and BowlTV in 2014

The Track Showcase Lanes, located on the ground floor of Reno's National Bowling Stadium, will be home to The Columbia 300 Forty Frame Game and again will be available for bowlers to book practice sessions to sharpen their skills or finalize their game plans.

The Columbia 300 Forty Frame Game to join USBC Open Championships at NBS

The tournament has welcomed more than 300,000 bowlers and paid more than $10.5 million in 25 years of competition

2014OCFortyFrameGameLogo_small.jpg The Forty Frame Game and the United States Bowling Congress have agreed on a partnership that will bring the popular tournament to the National Bowling Stadium's Showcase Lanes in 2014, and Columbia 300 will serve as the event's title sponsor. The Columbia 300 Forty Frame Game, which started in 1989, has been held in the same host city as the USBC Open Championships since 1992, but Reno, Nev., in 2014 will mark the first time for the two events to be held in the same venue.

USBC Championships VIP program returns with new features for 2014

The program will enter its second year with an emphasis on team pride and spending time together while in Reno, Nev., to compete in the world's largest participatory sporting event for women. 2013USBCOCMiguelLopezBenLaughlin_small.jpg Perfect games have come in bunches a few times during the 2013 USBC Open Championships, and Miguel Lopez (l.) of Wichita, Kan., and Ben Laughlin (r.) of Chandler, Ariz., managed to shoot 300 on the same pair of lanes at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., on June 28. Lopez was the first to accomplish the feat as he rolled 12 consecutive strikes in the second game of team event. Laughlin then rolled the 33rd perfect game of the 2013 event.

Craig Szplett becomes first bowler in USBC Open Championships history with three 300s

Three more bowlers toss perfect games at National Bowling Stadium

2013USBCOCCraigSzplett_small.jpgCraig Szplett (pictured) of Beecher, Ill., rolled a perfect game during his team event at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., on June 20 and became the first bowler in USBC Open Championships history with three 300s on the championship lanes. The 43-year-old right-hander also had 300s at the 1996 event in Salt Lake City and 2005 tournament in Baton Rouge, La. His effort this year marked the 30th perfect game in 2013 and 800th in the event's 110-year history.
