2008 Teen Masters is back with long term sponsors

11th annual event kicks off in March; National Finals in Las Vegas in July

TeenMastersLogo118h.jpg America's best youth tournament, the Teen Masters, is back and better than ever due to new long-term sponsorship from some of the industry's top companies. Three major bowling brands, Dexter Shoes, Ebonite International, and Kegel have all made multi-year, major commitments to the Teen Masters for the 2008 event and beyond. After 50 TM Qualifying events across the nation, the top 480 athletes will advance to the Teen Masters National Finals July 19-26 at Michael Gaughan's beautiful South Point Resort on the famous Las Vegas Boulevard.

Galante and Young win 10th Annual Teen Masters National Finals

2007TMAshlyGalanteGeoffreyYoung_small.jpg The 2007 Teen Masters National Champions are Ashly Galante and Geoffrey Young. Galante, Palm Harbor, Florida and Young, Denton, Texas both posted a 3-1 record in the best-of-five games championship match at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev., and each earned a $7,500 scholarship for their performance. Both 18-year-olds were bowling in their second Teen Masters.

Final Four set in Teen Masters

TeenMastersLogo118h.jpg The field of 387 top youth bowlers in the 10th annual Teen Masters is now down to four boys and four girls, and both defending champions are still in the game, setting up the possibility of a double repeat. 2006 TM Champions Brittni Hamilton and Jake Peters will attempt to win back-to-back Teen Masters titles Friday morning, but they will have to get past some very formidable competition. Ashly Galante, who finished second to Hamilton last year, is also in the top four girls.

TeenMastersLogo118h.jpg The 2007 Teen Masters is down to 32 players. The top 16 boys and 16 girls will face off at 11:30 Thursday morning at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The Round of 8 will roll at 3:00 pm. On Friday, the main event match play will feature the top four in each division. The TM Team Cup finals will also be held and the finals of the Score, Strikes, and Spares competition will roll at 1:00 pm.

Koff, Galante retain lead in Teen Masters National Finals

2007TMAndrewKoffAshlyGalante2_small.jpg Teen Masters bowlers rolled on a mixed pattern Wednesday morning and the field of 88 boys and 42 girls was cut to 32 and 16 at the Orleans in Las Vegas. Florida's Andrew Koff and Ashly Galante held on to the lead they have had the past couple of rounds to capture the top seeds going into the match play. Koff rolled a 1,243 in the third round to finish the 18 games of qualifying at 3,891, a 216.1 average. Galante leads the girls division with 3,666, an average of 203.6 for qualifying.

The top 88 boys and 42 girls will bowl six more games Wednesday morning, after which the field will be cut again to the top 32 boys and 16 girls.

Buckert and Galante top Round One in Teen Masters

2007TMJonathanBuckertAshlyGalante_small.jpg Jonathan Buckert, Rochester, New York, and Ashly Galante, Palm Harbor, Florida are the leaders after the first round of qualifying in the 10th annual Teen Masters. Buckert, bowling in C squad, dominated the boys division with a 1409 on the long oil pattern Monday. In the girls division, Galante rolled a 1261 Monday to lead round one. Ashley finished second in the 2006 Teen Masters to Brittni Hamilton.

TeenMastersLogo118h.jpg Winning the Teen Masters National Finals is the biggest thing to ever happen in bowling to two very talented teens, Jake Peters, Decatur, Illinois and Brittni Hamilton, Webster, NY. Their TM titles came in Orlando, Florida last summer, and both champions will be at the Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas next week to defend their titles. Hamilton defeated Florida's Ashley Galante to win the 2006 girl's crown and a $7500 scholarship award. Peters won the boy's and overall title to earn a $10,000 scholarship. Galante will also be in this year's field.

2006TMArenaFinals_small.jpg At first glance, the arena setup at the 2006 Teen Masters National Finals looks pretty normal. It quickly becomes apparent what's different, though. The four lanes inside Sound Stage 33 at Universal Studios Orlando are equipped with everything but pin-setting machines and modern-day ball returns. Instead, a dozen volunteers man the pins, setting them up and sending back the bowling ball after each shot.

After Friday afternoon matchplay at Boardwalk Entertainment Center, the top 16 were established, and Friday evening, the top eight girls competed in a unique arena environment at Universal Studios Sound Stage 33. The eight boys who remain will face off in best-of-five matchplay Saturday at noon and 1 pm in the arena.

In a format not seen by nearly all of the players at the event, the odd-numbered lanes were conditioned with a short-oil pattern while the even-numbered lanes had a long-oil pattern.

Galante, 17, maintained her lead by rolling an 1176 for the final six games of qualifying.

Hamilton was the best of 117 girls with a 201.6 average for her first 6 games, while Fitzgerald averaged 220.5 totaling 1323.
