2010EBT05BECLogo_small.jpgThe Brunswick Euro Challenge, which will be held from March 8-14, 2010 at 28-laner Le Plaza Bowling in Saint Maximin near Paris, France, is the fifth event of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Gold" tournaments. As of today 471 players from 37 countries have registered for the event which offers total prize fund of 90.000 Euro. The stepladder finals will be broadcasted live on Eurosport 2 Sunday, March 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. CET.

Thomas Larsen wins his first career EBT title in 8th Catalonia Open

2010EBT04BarrettLarsenLeal_small.jpgDane Thomas Larsen (center) defeated the hottest player on the 2010 European Bowling Tour, Dominic Barrett (l.), England, 235-229, to win the 8th Catalonia Open and the 6.000 Euro top prize.In the opening match Barrett, seeded second, flew past No. 3, women's ranking winner Luz Adriana Leal (r.) from Colombia, 287-201, to make his third consecutive EBT title match. Barrett received 3.000 Euro for second place, while Leal earned 2.000 Euro for third place.

48 players - 27 men and 21 women - advance to Sunday's finals

Joining Verbruggen as squad leader on Saturday were Mathias Sarmadi, France, (2nd, 1373), Patricia Luoto, Germany, (10th, 1341) and Osku Palermaa (r.), Finland (6th, 1350).

The long-time Colombian national team member leads a field of 107 players from 16 countries with 1366 including 48 pins handicap. Dane Anders Lousdal (l.) and Martin Paulsson (r.), Sweden, led Squad 7 and 8 with 1326 and 1309, respectively, en route qualify for Sunday's finals.

Larsen had high games of 247 (2) and a low game of 203 for 1362 to move into second place in the overall standings, just four pins behind qualifying leader Luz Adriana Leal from Colombia (1366). Peder Grimsen (r.), Sweden, rolled the tournament's first 300 game.

Leal is automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday. Dominic Barrett (r.), England, one of the hottest players on the 2010 European Bowling Tour, earned his berth into the finals by winning squad 4 with 1307.

French Yoan Alix, Marilyn Planchard set the pace in Catalonia Open

2010EBT04YoanAlix_small.jpgYoan Alix (left) and Marilyn Planchard, both France led the second qualifying squad in the Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa Wednesday at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona. Alix finished his six-game series with a 287, the highest game of the tournament thus far, for 1349 (224.83) to overtake the lead in qualifying. However, as one of the 12 squad leaders Alix is automatically qualified for the finals. Qualifying runs through Saturday evening, Feb. 27, with the final Squad 12 scheduled for 9 p.m. local time.

8th Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa is underway in Barcelona

2010EBT04Logo_small.jpg 20 bowlers - 16 men and 4 women - took to the lanes at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday night to kick off the 8th Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa. Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia, one of the seventeen Autonomous Communities of the Kingdom of Spain. None of the 20 players averaged 200. Axel Guimó, Catalonia, led Squad 1 with 1184 or an average of 197.33 and is automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday. The tournament is the fourth stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour.

Redemption for Dominic Barrett, wins 4th International Wroclaw Open by Hammer

Defeats three Swedes in come-from-behind victory

2010EBT03Top4_small.jpgFourth seeded Dominic Barrett (second from left), England, defeated three Swedes en route to win the title in the 4th International Wroclaw Open by Hammer and 3.700 Euro Sunday evening at Galeria Rozrywki Miraz in Wroclaw, Poland. In the title match against No. 1 seed Tobias Karlsson (left), Sweden, Barrett posted games of 277-207 and 253-198 to easily win the match, 530-405, and to claim his third EBT title. 14th placed Diana Zavjalova, Latvia, won the women's ranking in Wroclaw.

With the qualifying pinfall being carried forward, Barrett has a 50-pin buffer over Dennis Eklund (r.), Sweden, with 1482 six-game total and an average of 247.00 Eklund and Barrett finished 1,2 in last week's Hammer Bonzen Schietspoel Tournament.

Barrett, who fell to Eklund in the title match of the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament last Sunday, overtook the lead in in Squad 9 with 1482 and an average of 247.00. Two Squads later, Eklund rolled 1432 to move into second place.

Jouni Helminen, Finland, led Squad 7 on Thursday evening with 1369 to jump into 6th place in the overall qualifying standings. Tomasz Janicki, Poland, led Squad 5 with 1348 en route to overtake 8th place. Polish international Daria Pająk led Squad 6 with 1324 including 48 pins handicap, good for 10th place.

2010EBT03Banner_small.jpgTournament officials of the 4th International Wroclaw Open by Hammer adjusted the schedule for the second consecutive day when they added another extra squad on Wednesday afternoon. Paweł Bielski, Poland, remained in the lead while the top three players of the extra squad cracked the top 5. Łukasz Zjawiony, Poland, led the squad with 1382 six-game total en route to move into second place of the 44-player leaderboard. Ian Robinson moved into third place with 1378 and Göran Bergendorff, both Sweden, overtook fifth place with 1369.

Bielski leads the field of 35 players with 1424 six-game total and an average of 237.33. Piotr Zjawiony and Greta Frost led the extra squad on Tuesday afternoon with 1373 and 1350 to leap into second and third place, respectively. Fifth place belonged to Squad 3 leader Tomasz Janicki, all from Poland, who had six games between 203 and 227 for 1307. Qualifying continues with Squad 4 on Wednesday.

Bielski leads Tymoteusz Cieckiewicz, both Poland, by 76 pins. Cieckiewicz used high games of 268 and 248 for 1348. The 4th International Wroclaw Open by Hammer is the third stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and the Tour's first Satellite tournament.

Dennis Eklund wins Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament

Germany's Martina Beckel wins Women's Ranking; Stampe, Barrett shoot 300 games

2010EBT02Top4_small.jpgSwedish national team member Dennis Eklund rolled games of 251 and 259 to claim the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament Sunday at Dolfijn Bowling Tilburg in Tilburg, Netherlands, and to earn 8.000 Euro plus 100 ranking points. Eklund saved his best for last to beat qualifying leader Dominic Barrett, England, by six pins, 510-504. Barrett finished second, with Tobias Karlsson, Sweden, in third and women's ranking winner Martina Beckel, Germany, in fourth.

Barrett led the field of 236 players - 181 men and 55 women - from 19 countries with 1491 six-game total and an average of 248.50. Vanessa Timter (r.), Germany, was the best of 10 women, who survived qualifying.

Barrett felled 1396 pins including high games of 266, 256 and 254 to beat out Swede Martin Larsen (r.) for the bonus by 22 pins. Barrett held on to the lead with the 1491 six-game total from Squad 5.

Barrett led Squad 5 with 1491 total (248.50 avg.) and beat out Palermaa for the Hammer BIG Bonus of 1.000 Euro for the squad leader by 16 pins. Palermaa moved into second place with 1475.

On Wednesday evening the lefty put herself in a position to repeat the feat. Van der Tol led the extra squad (#14) with 1297 six-game total including 48 pins women's handicap to move into 7th place in the overall qualifying standings. Her compatriot Maarten Pittens (r.) held on to the lead with 1329.
