Anton Stiel (l.) won the fifth qualifying squad of the 9th Columbia 300 Vienna Open Wednesday afternoon at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria en route to earn an automatic berth into Sunday's finals worth minimum 500 Euro. Stiel, who was the winner of the first qualifying in last year's Columbia 300 Vienna Open, started with 701 for the first three games and maintained a slim eight-pin lead over Italy's Marco Parapini. With his 1258 total Stiel moved into eighth place in the overall qualifying standings. There will be one more wild card for the leader of Squad 6.Â

Rauscher spared and struck in the final frame of his six-game series to overtake Israeli national team member Or Aviram by four pins, 1271 to 1267. Besides qualifying for the main event, Rauscher, earned the Columbia Early Bird Award worth $500. Qualifying continues Wednesday with Squads 4-6.

Despite starting and finishing her six-game series with 160s, Farkas totaled 1234 pins including 48 pins handicap thanks to games of 215, 231, 2902 and 209, to beat out Lubos Jurinyi, Slovakia, and Zoltan Skorbrics (r.), Hungary, for the top spot by five and nine pins, respectively.

The qualifying of the 9th Columbia 300 Vienna Open got underway on Tuesday, Sept. 27th at noon CET with the first of 17 squads at 32-lane Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. Austrian national team members Rene Landl and Roman FĂĽrbacher posted the two highest six-game series in a full squad of 30 Doubles en route to take the lead in Singles Qualifying and teamed to also set the tone in Doubles. Landl (r.) beat out his team mate FĂĽrbacher (l.) for the top spot by one pin, 1251 to 1250. Qualifying continues today with Squad 2 and 3.

The 9th Columbia 300 Vienna Open got underway with a 9-pin No-Top tournament Monday evening, Sept. 26th at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. The event, which traditionally kicks off the five-day qualifying portion of the European Bowling Tour "Gold" tournament, drew 81 players from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands and Poland. Three of the Dutch bowlers, Marco Landman (1233), Ronnie Lenting (1179), and Eric van Glabbeek (1137), led Group A, B and C, resp., while Petra Schadner of Austria won Group D with 1131.
325 players from 30 countries registered; three qualifying spots (doubles) available; still some other spots available for individual players in almost every squad
The 9th annual Columbia 300 Vienna Open is the 17th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the last "Gold" event this season. 325 players from 30 countries have already registered for the popular tournament which will be held Sep. 27 through Oct. 2, 2011 at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria offering total prize fund of 70.630 Euro.

Osku Palermaa regains lead in European Bowling Tour Men's Ranking
French national team member Yoan Alix (pictured) averaged over 240 in the last six-game block of the Chandra Open 2011 en route to win his first European Bowling Tour title and the 5.000 Euro top prize. Alix posted a 1445 series to jump from seventh to first place with 2766 total (230.50 avg.). Stuart Williams, England, was second with 2715. Osku Palermaa, Finland slipped from first to third place with 2699 but regained the lead in the EBT men's ranking. Fourth place Lisanne Breeschoten, Netherlands, claimed the women's ranking title.

Carmen Haandrikman (l.), Netherlands, and Cassie Staudinger (r.) of Australia, led the sixth of 12 qualifying squads Thursday evening with 1405 and 1321 en route to move into first and sixth place in the overall qualifying standings.

Arndt had games of 185, 205, 268, 166, 246 and 202 to lead Squad 2 with 1272 six-game total to move into third place in the qualifying standings. Squad 1 leaders, Johnny Spil (1311) and Michell Stinissen (1291), remained atop the leaderboard with Phil Hulst in fourth with 1269. Trailing by 69 pins after the first game of the title match in the Russian Open, Mikhail Kalika, Ukraine, rebounded from a 176 opening game with 279 to beat Sergey Andreev, Russia, 455-450, to claim his first EBT title and the 5.500 Euro top prize. Andreev had to settle for second place, worth 3.800 Euro. In the roll-off for third and fourth place, women's ranking winner Alena Korobkova topped Ivan Semenov, 460-421. Korobkova and Semenov received 2.500 and 2.000 Euro, resp.
Larsen, Persson-Planefors hold on to the lead after EBT Satellite event in Moscow
With 15 out of 20 tournaments of the 2011 European Bowling Tour in the books, Thomas Larsen (l.) of Denmark and Joline Persson-Planefors (r.), Sweden, are the frontrunners for men's and women's EBT ranking honors. The 15th Tour stop, the Russian Open, which concluded Sunday, Sept. 18, drew 181 participants from 10 countries. However, none of the top 16 in the EBT men's and women's ranking, entered the EBT Satellite event.
