England leads top 15 European men teams to the Combined World Championships 2013

Eight European countries will be represented by both teams, men and women, in Las Vegas

The 5th Men's European Championships in Vienna, Austria, served as the qualifying event for the 2013 WTBA World Championships. The combined championships for men and women will be held from Aug. 18-31 at Sunset Station's Strike Zone bowling center in Las Vegas. The 15 women teams have been decided in June at the 2012 Women's European Championships in Tilburg, Netherlands.  Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Poland and Sweden will be represented by both teams.

Jesper Agerbo wins all-Danish title match to claim the Masters crown

Defeats Thomas Larsen, 276-267, in the decider to win the third gold medal of the Championships for Denmark; Larsen achieves perfection in the quarterfinals; Denmark finishes MEC atop the medal tally

It was the second gold medal for Agerbo and the third gold medal for Denmark, which finished atop the medal tally. Larsen, who had the MEC's sole 300 game in the quarterfinals, received silver, while Kim Bolleby of Sweden and Svein Roger Olsen of Norway shared bronze.

Finland beats England to win Team gold at Men's European Championships

Joonas Jehkinen (FIN), Michael Loos (AUT), Jesper Agerbo (DEN) earn the medals in All Events; the top 24 in All Events advance to Masters match play

2012MECLogo2_small.jpg Finland defeated England in the title match of the five-player Team event, 1102-1020, to capture the coveted Men's European Championships Team gold Friday evening at Plus Bowling in Austria, Vienna. England received the silver medal, while Sweden and Norway shared bronze. Joonas Jehkinen of Finland averaged 216.83 to win the gold medal in All Events. Michael Loos of Austria was second and Jesper Agerbo of Denmark third. The top 24 in All Events advanced to Masters match play, which will conclude the Championships on Saturday.

Finland leads five-player Team preliminaries after the first block on medium oil

Norway, Sweden and Squad 1 leader Germany round out the top four heading into the second block on long oil Friday; Jehkinen (FIN), Loos (AUT) and Larsen (DEN) atop the All Events standings after 21 of 24 games

Finland's Joonas Jähi, Joonas Jehkinen, Perttu Jussila, Osku Palermaa and Petteri Salonen (left) set the pace after three games on the on medium oil pattern (38') with 3297 total (219.80). Finn Jehkinen, overtook the lead in All Events with 4553 (216.81).

Denmark wins second gold medal in second event at Men's European Championships

Jesper Agerbo, Thomas Larsen and Mik Stampe claim Trios title from No. 4 seed

The Danes, seeded fourth, defeated No. 3 seed Finland ( Jehkinen, Jussila, Palermaa), 611-602, in the title match. It was the second gold medal for Denmark and the second for Larsen and Stampe in as many events. Top seeded Sweden (Bolleby, Eklund, Larsen) and No. 2 England (Miller, Quarry, Teece) shared bronze.

Sweden, England, Finland, Denmark to bowl for the Trios title

Loos, Larsen, Agerbo lead in All Events after 18 of 24 games

For the second time in as many events at the Men's European Championships, Sweden earned the No. 1 seed for the Trios finals, which will start a 8 p.m. CEST at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. Kim Bolleby, Dennis Eklund and Martin Larsen rolled games of 545, 664 and 673 on the long oil pattern (44') in the last squad of the preliminaries (Squad 1) to finish with 3843 total and an average of 213,50. As the No. 1 seed Sweden bowls No. 4 Denmark while No. 2 England meets No. 3 Finland in the other semifinal match.

2012 Men's European Championships - Sweden takes the lead in Trios after first block

Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria (Aug. 16-26, 2012)

2012MECLogo2_small.jpg Kim Bolleby, Dennis Eklund and Martin Larsen of Sweden rolled games of 602, 692 and 667 to take the lead in the Trios event at the Men's European Championships Tuesday at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. With 1961 total (217,89 average) the Swedes lead second-place Denmark (1910) by 51 pins. The other Swedish trio sits in third place with 1881. Fourth place belonged to the Netherlands with 1871. The 67 trios will return on Wednesday for the second block. The top 4 trios after six games will advance to the medal round starting Wednesday at 8 p.m. CEST.

Denmark starts Men's European Championships with victory in Doubles

Thomas Larsen & Mik Stampe defeat top-seeded Swedes Robert Andersson & Martin Paulsson in the gold medal match; England and Germany share the bronze medal

2012MECLogo2_small.jpg In a title match between the top two qualifiers, Thomas Larsen and Mik Stampe of Denmark defeated top-seeded Robert Andersson and Martin Paulsson of Sweden, 392-385, to capture the first gold medal of the fifth Men's European Championships Monday evening at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. The Swedes had to settle for the silver medal. Marco Baade and Bodo Konieczny of Germany and England's Raymond Teece and Matt Miller, who lost to Sweden and Denmark in the semifinals, respectively, shared the bronze medal.

The top-seeded Swedes take on the fourth-seeded Germans Marco Baade and Bodo Konieczny in the semifinal. In the other match No. 2 Thomas Larsen and Mik Stampe of Denmark take on No.3 Raymond Teece and Matt Miller of England. The winners bowl for gold, the losers share bronze.

The Swedes averaged 226 on the long oil pattern (44') for 5199 total pinfall and an overall average of 216.63. Places 2-4 belong to Denmark, England and Germany. John Wells of England held on the lead in All Events with 2647 12-game total and an average of 220.58.

Two English and two Danish Doubles atop the leaderboard with three of four squads having completed the first six-game block on medium oil; Wells cracks 1400-bar to take the early lead in All Events

The Teams from 34 countries were divided into four squads to bowl the first six-game block on the medium (38') lane conditioning pattern. With three of four squads in the books, England's Mike Quarry and John Wells set the pace with 2625 total and an average of 218.75. Wells led the way with the field-best 1403 total, a 233.83 average, to take the early lead in All Events. Quarry contributed 1222 (203.67). Squad 4 will bowl their first block on Sunday morning.

The teams from 34 countries and regions were assigned to three squads. Each squad has two hours of practice. The Championships runs through Aug. 25 and serves as qualifying event for the 2013 Combined World Championships.

Both championships will determine the countries who will participate in the 2013 Combined World Championships in Las Vegas.
