Brian Voss (pictured), United States, won the qualifying of the II Brunswick Madrid Challenge and received a 750 Euro bonus. The PBA Hall of Famer, who owns who owns 25 PBA titles along with three European Bowling Tour titles, led the field of 166 players, 133 men and 33 women, from 26 countries with 1544 and an average of 257.33 including games 245, 278, 268, 258, 267 and 228.
Dominic Barrett of England rolled one of four 300 games on Saturday en route to finish qualifying in second place with with 1537 (256.17).
Mika Koivuniemi (l.) won the qualifying in the San Marino Open with 1484 and an average of 247.33 en route to earn a 1.000 Euro bonus. The native Finn, who lives in the United States, owns 13 PBA titles and is targeting to win his 10th European Bowling Tour title Sunday at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle. Koivuniemi survived a strong charge Stuart Williams (r.) of England, who averaged 245.83 in Squad 19 but fell nine pins short to settle for second place with 1475.
Mika Koivuniemi (pictured), a native Finn who resides in Hartland, Mich., USA, averaged 247.33 in Squad 15 on Friday afternoon to overtake the lead in the qualifying of the 10th San Marino Open by 17 pins. The two-time PBA Player of the Year (2003-04 and 2010-11), who owns 13 PBA titles and 9 European Bowling Tour titles, had games of 257, 256, 194, 225, 299 and 253 and leads the field of 161 players from 20 countries with 1484. If Koivuniemi survives the remaining four squads on Saturday, he will receive a 1.000 Euro bonus.
Swedish bowlers dominated Thursday's qualifying at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle as Martin Paulsson, Markus Jansson, Patrick Backe, Daniel Fransson and Martin Larsen cracked the top 10 in the 13th qualifying squad of the 10th San Marino Open. Paulsson (pictured) averaged 244.50 including games of 268, 276, 214, 203, 248 and 258 to overtake the pole position in the 145-player field from 19 countries with 1467. The score to make the cut in 35th place raised by 81 pins on Thursday to 1272 (212 average).
Danish national team member Carsten Warming Hansen (pictured) averaged over 230 in Squad 9 en route to leap into second place in the qualifying of the 10th San Marino Open Wednesday afternoon at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle. Hansen, who had two top-4 finishes this season, is still looking to win his first European Bowling Tour. The Dane had a slow start with 160 but finished strong with game of 236, 268, 246, 247 and 224 for 1381 and an average of 230.17. Federico Rossi of Italy held on to the lead with 1449 and an average of 241.50.
After disappointing performances on Monday, Germany's Oliver Morig and Andrea Spadavecchia of Italy returned to Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino, and rolled the only 1300-plus series on Tuesday to add their names to the qualifying leaderboard in the San Marino Open. Morig (l.) posted the highest 1337 series in Squad 5 and Spadavecchia (r.) had 1325 in Squad 6 to leap into fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the overall qualifying standings.
Alessandro Silletti (pictured left) of Italy outscored his nearest competitor by 111 pins Monday at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle en route to jump into third place in the overall qualifying standings in the European Bowling Tour's 10th San Marino Open. Silletti posted games of 224, 231, 180, 209, 237 and 266 for 1347 series and an average of 224.50. His compatriots Federico Rossi and Amedeo Spada remained in the lead with 1449 and 1375, respectively, while Maurizio Celli fell one spot to fourth place with 1312. 
Long-time Italian national team member Federico Rossi (pictured) averaged 241.50 in the fourth qualifying squad of the 10th San Marino Open Sunday afternoon at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle en route to overtake the qualifying lead with 1449 total. Rossi, who won his lone European Bowling Tour title in the Catalonia Open in 2006, followed a 185 opening game with four games averaging 269.25 (263, 245, 300 and 269) including rolling the tournament's first 300 game. Rossi holds a 74-pin over Squad 3 leader Amedeo Spada, Italy, with 1375.
Julien Sermand (l.) of France posted a 1303 series and averaged 217.17 for six games on the opening day of the 10th San Marino Open to set the pace in the qualifying of the European Bowling Tour "gold" tournament. Second place Amedeo Spada of Italy was 58 pins behind with 1245. Alexander Fischer (r.) of Germany paced the second squad on Saturday afternoon with 1230, an average of 205, to finish the day in third place.
Swede Martin Larsen (l.) defeated fellow PBA bowler Dominic Barrett (r.) of England, 213-190, to win his eighth European Bowling Tour title in the 2nd annual Brunswick Madrid Challenge. Larsen, who averaged 261.13 for eight games in Final Rounds 3 & 4 to earn the No. 1 seed for the stepladder finals, received 6.000 Euro and 100 ranking points for winning the EBT "silver" tournament. The high-scoring event featured 10 300 games.
Ida Andersson (l.) started slowly into the 13th qualifying squad of the II Brunswick Madrid Challenge Wednesday afternoon at Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain, but a strong finish including games of 244, 290, 253 and 257 propelled the Swede to the top of the leaderboard with 1483. Steven Gill (r.) of Scotland made a run at the lead in Squad 14 before settling into second place with a 1477 and the field-best 246.17 average.
Pablo Barriopedro (pictured) of Spain became the first player in the second annual Brunswick Madrid Challenge, who cracked the 1400-bar en route to take over the lead in qualifying Tuesday evening at Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain. Barriopedro, who was fourth after a 1318 series in Squad 10, rolled 256, 277 and 255 games (788 series) out of the starting block and finished with 193, 211 and 225 for 1417, an average of 237.17. Qualifying continues Wednesday, June 25, with Squads 13 & 14
scheduled to start at 5 and 9 p.m. CEST.
Spanish bowlers continued to dominate the leaderboard in the II Brunswick Madrid Challenge after players of Squad 10 finished their six-game qualifying block Monday evening at Bowling ChamartÃn. Ruben Orche (l.) led the squad with 1340 total and an average of 223.33 to jump into second place in the overall standings. Javier Moreno (r.), who posted 1381 in the first squad, continued to lead the field of 55 players, 47 men and eight women.
Iñigo GarcÃa (l.) and Raul Jimenez (r.) brought the number of 1300 series in the II Brunswick Madrid Challenge to three as the duo led the fifth qualifying squad Sunday morning with 1322 and 1305, resp. Squad 1 leader Javier Moreno leads a field of 32 players with 1381 (230.17 ave.). The three Spaniards earned automatic spots for Sunday's finals by finishing 1-2-3 in the standings after two days. Qualifying continues Monday, June 23, at 9 p.m. with Squad 10.
Javier Moreno averaged over 230 in the first squad of the second Brunswick Madrid Challenge Sunday at Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain, to lead a field of 21 players from Spain with 1381 total. Moreno started with games of 218, 277 and 224 before he was informed that his grandmother just had passed away. Somehow he was able to finish the six-game series with three games between 212 and 226 to lead the European Bowling Tour "silver" event after the first qualifying day.
Team USA member Liz Johnson (l.) struck out in the 9th and 10th frame in the title match of the Odense International to defeat top-seeded Mai Ginge Jensen (r.) of Denmark, 232-209, en route to win her second career European Bowling Tour title Sunday afternoon in Odense, Denmark. It is the second win by a woman on the 2014 Tour and marks the second consecutive win and third overall for Johnson in the women's ranking of an EBT event.
Joachim Karlsson (pictured) of Sweden posted a 1354 series in Squad 14 of 16 Saturday at Odense Bowling Center in Denmark en route to win the qualifying of the Odense International and to lead 36 players, 26 men and 10 women, into the finals on Sunday. Karlsson, who will be looking to for his first European Bowling Tour title, rolled games of 268, 213, 235, 257, 259 and 222, an average of 242.33, to beat out his fellow countryman Christoffer Jakobsson for the top spot by seven pins.
Mai Ginge Jensen (l.) of Denamrk totaled 1442 in Friday's Squad 12 to rise to the top in the Odense International heading into the last qualifying day at Odense Bowling Center in Odense, Denmark. Jensen overtook previous leader Carsten Warming Hansen, Denmark, by 11 pins. Kamilla Kjeldsen (r.), Denmark, paced Squad 13 with 1402 to leap into sixth place. The leaderboard got a whole new look on Friday as 12 players moved into the top 15.
