Europe takes Weber Cup XVI in a rout

2015WeberCupTeamEurope_small.jpgEurope (l-r - Dom Barrett, Osku Palermaa, Martin Larsen and Stuart Williams) are the 2015 Dafabet Weber Cup champions as Williams put Team America out of their misery with a win over Wes Malott in the first singles match of the final session. It gave Europe their third consecutive Weber win and tied the 16 event series up at eight championships each. It was also Europe's biggest ever winning margin and surely makes amends for the hiding they suffered in 2012.

The sixth edition of the made-for-TV Tour will be contested from Nov. 2-7 in four cities in France, Bowling Skittle in Chateaubriant, Silverbowl in Angers, Bowling Le Belem in Dinan and Extra Bowl in Ballainvilliers. Each of the eight shows will air on French television networks and on the internet free of charge.

Paulsson, world champion in Doubles in 2010, received 3.500 Euro for the victory, while Larsen, reigning world champion in Trios, pocketed 2.500 for second place.

Koshelev, who became the first male winner since Marshall Kent's victory in 2012, received 1.500 Euro for the feat. Persson Planefors took home 1.300 for second place.

In the semifinal matches, Hilferink defeated Malta's Neil Sullivan, 454-421, while Rudshagen ousted England's Darren Cundy, 451-380.

Thorell started the day in Squad 6 with 1351, an average of 225.17, and added 48 pins women's handicap for 1399. She took a break and returned in Squad 8 and fired games of 248, 268, 288, 248, 248 and 207 for 1507 scratch, an average of 251.17, and 1555 to lead the tournament after day two qualifying with 2954 total.

Ahlstrand averaged 243.17 and toppled 1459 pins to beat out England's Rob Thurlby for the top spot by just one pin. Thurlby (pictured) fired the first 300 game of the tournament in game five. Paul Stott Jr. of Ireland and Alexander Larsson of Sweden also surpassed the 1400-mark to overtake third and fourth place with 1421 and 1402, respectively.

The Swiss national team member posted a 1440 series and the field-best 205.71 average in the final seven-game round, which featured a special position point system format, to beat out Tanic for the title by six points, 95 to 89.
