Stureby BC, Team X-Calibur win Swedish Men's and Women's National Team Championships

Stureby Bowling Club (.) and Team X-Calibur (r.) captured the men's and women's titles in the Swedish eight-player team league finals at Bowling Arena in Jönköping. In the men's title match, underdog Stureby defeated No. 1 seed Team Pergamon, while Team X-Calibur topped Scandinavia BC in the women's final.

Gruffman, Andersson win men's and women's title in Swedish National Championship

2012SWENCJamesGruffman_small.jpg2012SWENCSandraAndersson_small.jpgJames Gruffman (l.) and Sandra Andersson (r.) captured the men's and women's individual titles at the 2012 Swedish Elite National Championship which concluded at Baltic Bowling Center in Malmö on Easter weekend. Gruffman, a 24-year-old lefthander, overtook the lead after 12 of 32 games and never looked back. Andersson, 20, won her second national title after 2009 thanks to an outstanding performance on in round robin match play.

Eurosport 2 to air the stepladder finals of the Brunswick Ballmaster Open on Thursday

Tape-delay telecast features PBA champions O'Neill, Koivuniemi, Fagan and Barrett

Eurosport2Logo_small.jpgEurosport International - the No. 1 pan-European TV channel, will be showing the stepladder finals of the 42nd Brunswick Ballmaster Open on Thursday, April 5, at 23:00 CET on Eurosport 2. The Ballmaster was the season-opening event of the 2012 European Bowling Tour. Four PBA champions, Bill O'Neill, United States; Mika Koivuniemi, Finland; Mike Fagan, United States; and Dominic Barrett, England, bowled for the title and the 12.000 Euro top prize.

Brian Voss, Hayley White win men's and women's titles at Columbia 300 Irish Open

Seven 300 games rolled at Leisureplex Stillorgan in Dublin, Ireland (Jan. 19-22, 2012)

2012IrishOpenHayleyWhiteBrianVoss2_small.jpgPBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss (right) of the United States and English international Hayley White (left) emerged as the men's and women's champions of the Columbia 300 Irish Open Tenpin Bowling Championships, which were held at Leisureplex Stillorgan in Dublin, Ireland from Jan. 19-22, 2012. Voss, a 25-time PBA champion and the PBA Player of the Year 1988, pocketed 3.500 Euro while White, who led the women's division in all rounds, received 1.200 Euro. The tournament drew 153 players from 15 countries.

Martin Paulsson is Sweden's Bowler of the Year 2011

Martin Paulsson (r.) has been selected as the Bowler of the Year 2011 by the Swedish Bowling Federation. For the 40-year-old Paulsson a dream came true. In 2009 at the age of 38, Paulsson made his debut in the Swedish national team. One year later he and Mathias Ã…rup won the gold medal in Doubles gold medal at the Men's World Championships. At the European Championships in 2011, Paulsson showed another outstanding performance en route to capture the coveted Masters title.

Karl Wahlgren wins Super Star Shoot-out to conclude Swedish Super Six Tour era

The SSST ceased operations in December after more than 12 years and 72 tournaments. The shoot-out was the final event of the 2011 Tour. Total seven players - the top six in the 2011 SST ranking plus the best female player - qualified for the event.

Osku Palermaa wins the final stop of Swedish Super Six Tour in Malmö

Tour ceases operations after more than 12 years and 72 tournaments

2011SSST06OskuPalermaa_small.jpgFinnish two-handed star Osku Palermaa (pictured left) won the final stop of the Swedish Super Six Tour 2011 defeating the No. 1 seed James Gruffman, 246-204, in the title match of the Malmö International on Sunday, Dec. 11 at Baltiska bowling center in Malmö. The win was a special one for Palermaa as the Swedish Super Six Tour will cease operations after more than twelve years. The first tournament took place in Norrtälje in August 1999 and the final stop in Malmö was the 72nd tournament.

Paul Stott Jr. remains undefeated to win IDM Bucharest International Bowling Open 2011

2011BucharestPaulStott2_small.jpgPaul Stott Jr. (pictured) of Ireland remained undefeated in the single-elimination match play finals of the IDM Bucharest International Bowling Open 2011 en route to win the title and the 2.500 Euro top prize. In the title match Stott, seeded second defeated top seeded Steve Miller , two-games-to-none, at IDM Club in Bucharest, Romania. Miller pocketed 1.500 Euro for second place while Charis Panayiotou Cyprus, and Brian Voss, United States, received 1.000 Euro each for third and fourth place.

Miller posted 1418 in the penultimate qualifying squad 21 to beat out Spiros Vlachos (r.), Greece, for the top spot by four pins.

The 25-time PBA champion had games of 234, 234, 247, 229, 236 and 201 in Squad 18 on Friday for 1381 six-game total and an average of 230.17. Spiros Vlachos of Greece held on to the lead with 1414 (235.67), the sole 1400-plus series of the 93 players from 12 countries.

England's Steve Miller (r.) led the last Squad on Thursday evening to crack the top 4 with 1307. The top four after the first four qualifying days - Vlachos, Simut, Piticariu and Miller - have secured berths into Sunday's finals.

Viorel Simut (l.) continued to lead the field of 41 players from Romania, Bulgaria and Greece (1345) with Marius Piticariu (r.) in second place with 1332. Qualifying continues Thursday with Squads 11-14.

Viorel Simut overtakes qualifying lead in IDM Bucharest International

Viorel Simut (l.) posted a 1345 six-game series in the third and last qualifying squad on Tuesday to overtake the lead in the qualifying of the IDM Bucharest International Bowling Open after six of 22 squads. Simut was the sole player Tuesday who moved into the top four in the overall qualifying standings. Day one leader Marius Piticariu slipped to second place with 1332 with Marius Briciu (1300) in third and Romeo Gagenoiu (1286) fourth. Qualifying continues Wednesday with Squads 7-10.

Marius Piticariu (l.) led day one qualifying with 1332 six-game total and an average of 222. Squad 1 leader Marius Briciu, who toppled 1300 pins was second with Squad 3 leader Romeo Gagenoiu (r.) in third with 1286. Qualifying continues Tuesday with Squads 4-6.

Tomas Leandersson comes from behind to win Nyköping International Tournament

Claims his third Super Six title in the last twelve months

2011SSST05Top4_small.jpgTomas Leandersson came from behind to claim his third victory within the last twelve months on the Swedish Super Six Tour in the Nyköping International Tournament Sunday Oct. 30. In the title match at Nyköping SuperBowl, Leandersson defeated his Team Pergamon teammate, Kim Bolleby, 242-224. The Swedish Super Six Tour will cease operations after twelve years with the sixth and last stop in Malmö (Dec. 3-11).

Americans triumph in 12th Weber Cup

Claim their seventh victory with 17-15 win over Europe

The head-to-head competition went down to the penultimate game of the 33 match series after Europe had mounted a stunning comeback when looking dead and buried. It was Chris Barnes who sealed the winning point for a 17-15 victorOsku Palermaa in a clash of the captains.

U.S. Team overtakes the lead in Sunday afternoon session at Weber Cup

2011WeberCupLogo_small.jpg In an amazing turnaround, the U.S. team won five of the six matches in the Sunday afternoon session of the Weber Cup at the Barnsley Metrodome to turn a two point deficit into a two point lead. They now need just four more points to claim victory while Europe is facing an uphill climb. The Americans appear to have come good at the right time, with Tommy Jones in devastating form as he missed out on yet another 300 game by a single pin.

Europe maintains two-point lead over United States after 18 matches in Weber Cup

2011WeberCupLogo_small.jpg The Europeans will take a two-point lead into the final day of the 12th annual Weber Cup as they once again shared both sessions on Saturday with the Americans. It was a poor show from Europe as they recorded four consecutive sub-200 games but were bailed out by Paul Moor in the show closer to lead 10-8. Featuring a potential total of 33 matches over the weekend, the first team to reach 17 points will lift the coveted trophy.

Europe takes 4-2 lead over United States after Day One in Weber Cup

2011WeberCupLogo_small.jpg Team Europe completed an excellent opening day at the 2011 Weber Cup as they opened up a 4-2 lead over their U.S. opponents in front of a fair sized Friday night crowd at the Barnsley Metrodome. The teams had shared the opening exchanges as the match was poised at 2-2 but the Europeans pulled away as first Dominic Barrett, England, edged past Tommy Jones and then Finn Mika Koivuniemi narrowly beat Mike Fagan.

In the title match, the two-time World Champion (2009, Las Vegas) topped current European Bowling Tour women's ranking leader Joline Persson-Planefors, Sweden, 201-170 and 220-204, to earn the 3.500 Euro top prize.
