Hermes had high games of 245, 246, 258 and 266 but two sub-300 games cost him the lead as he finished with 1390 six-game total, mere five pins behind tournament leader Leonidas Maragos (left) from Greece.

Leonidas Maragos, Greece, who was third with 1306, improved his score in the sixth qualifying squad by 89 pins to shoot into the lead in the Brunswick Euro Challenge, the fifth stop of the 2007 European Bowling Tour. Maragos felled 1395 pins and had an average of 232.50. Vaggelis Krizinis slipped to second place with 1310.

Greek standout Dimitrios Karetsos set the pace in the fourth of 27 qualifying squads in the Brunswick Euro Challenge at Strike Bowling Club in Thessaloniki, Greece Saturday evening. The 47-year-old multiple national champion and long-time national team member moved into fourth place behind a 1275 series, an average of 212.50 over six games.

Vaggelis Krizini, a 17-year-old Greek youth national team member, led the third qualifying squad with 1310 six-game total and an average of 218.33 to move to the top in the Brunswick Euro Challenge in Thessaloniki, Greece. Alex Tzounis, president of the Greek Bowling Federation, led Squad 4 with 1274, good enough for fourth place.

Alexandra Zorba came out of the gates quickly firing games of 246 and 247 en route to take the early lead with 1218 six-game total including 48 pins handicap. Qualifying continues on Saturday with three more squads.

The Brunswick Euro Challenge is the fifth stop of the 2007 European Bowling Tour. More than 400 players are expected to compete for a total prize fund of 90.000 Euro (more than US$115,000). In a stepladder final representing one player from each of the three FIQ/WTBA zones, Martin Larsen walked away the winner in the V Catalonia Open in Barcelona, Spain. The World Doubles Champion from Sweden was the top-seeded player and defeated Rodrigo Hermes, Brazil, in the title match, 208-196. Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, finished third. Larsen pocketed 10.000 Euro for the feat.
X-treme Bowling in Foetz, Luxembourg (Feb. 21-25, 2007)
3-time defending European ranking champion Paul Moor from England defeated World Cup champion Osku Palermaa from Finland over two games total pinfall, 503-364, to win the Ebonite International Luxembourg Open. It was Moor's second consecutive EBT title and the 10th of his career, worth 5.000 Euro.

Qualifying leader Paul Moor (left) from England posted games of 236 and 279 to easily win the championship round in the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2007 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands, and the 5.000 Euro. Martina Beckel, Germany, was the top ranked woman in 9th place to win the women rankings.

Kimmo Lehtonen (l.) rolled back-to-back 225 games to win the Brunswick Ballmaster Open in Helsinki, Finland. The tournament organizer defeated compatriot Petri Mannonen, 225-200, in the semi-final, then went on to beat Sweden's Bowler of the Year 2006, Martin Larsen (r.), in the title match, 225-209.
The European Bowling Tour (EBT) announced its 2007 schedule, with 21 stops - 13 Majors and 8 Challengers - in 16 countries. The tournaments offer total prize money of more than 1.14 million Euro or more than 1.5 million U.S. Dollar. The 2007 EBT will begin with the Brunswick Ballmaster Open at Tali Bowling Stadium in Helsinki, Finland (January 6-14, 2007).
