The 4th Pan American Bowling Confederation Senior Championships and the 2nd PABCON Super Senior Championships concluded on Saturday Oct. 4 at Bolera Departamental in Cali, Colombia. Edgardo Ruiz of Puerto Rico and Mexico's Fransuesa Sacre captured the men's and women's titles in the Senior division. Bob Puttick of Canada and Clara De Rivadeneira of Colombia earned the gold medals in the Super Senior division.

Puerto Rico's Ivan Cruz, Edgardo Ruiz and Antonio Velez and Nora Delgado, Gloria Arango and Amanda Galeano of Colombia captured the titles in men's and women's Trios at the 4th PABCON Senior Championships Thursday at Bolera Departamental in Cali, Colombia. Ruben Cruz and Luz Marina Garcia earned another gold medal for the host country as they teamed to win the title in Mixed Doubles in the Super Senior division.

Michael Snow/Richard Lafleur (2552), Canada, and Maria Checa/Ghiselle Araujo (2214), Costa Rica, captured the men's and women's Senior titles, while Julio Soto/Ruben Cruz (2388), Colombia, and Silvia Juarez/Rosalia Brea (1968), Uruguay, won the Super Senior titles.

Jacinto Baltodano (1357), Costa Rica, and Amanda Galeano (1164), Colombia, captured the men's and women's Senior titles, while Julio Soto (1285), Colombia, and Suzanne Algernon (1046), Venezuela, triumphed in the men's and women's Super Senior divisions.

The seniors (age 50 and older) will bowl for medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Teams, All-Events and Masters, while the super seniors (age 60 and above) will compete for medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Mixed Teams, All-Events and Masters.

On the women's side Joan Mardomingo (r.), Venezuela, swept Gabriela Salmeron, Mexico, to win the women's crown.

Santa, Sacre end 2008 PABCON Senior Championships with victory in Masters

Both semifinals, men and women, were decided in two games, while both finals went the distance. Santa used a 268 to eliminate Mike Aguilar, Guatemala, and defeated Leopoldo Ritter, Venezuela, 2-1 in the title match thanks to a 236 game in the decider. Sacre beat two Venezuelans on her way to the women's title. Sacre ousted Suzanne Algernon in the semis, 2-0, and came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Milda Dos Ramos, two-games-to-one.

The top 16 men and the top 16 women in All Events advanced to the Masters finals, which will conclude the 2008 PABCON Senior Championships.

Edward Roberts, Harry Mickelson, Phil Prieto and Rudy Moreno, won the first gold medal for the United States in this championships thanks to a strong finish. Roberts (721), Mickelson (598) and Moreno (701) had 654, 670 and 696 in the final 3-game block, a 224.44 average, to capture the title with 3815 pinfall total and an average of 211.94.

Aguilar had a high game of 267 and a low game of 193 to win the men's division with 1345 six-game total and an average of 224.17. Gonzalez had a slow start into the championships with back-to-back 170s but rebounded with 231 and 250 to easily win the gold medal in the women's division with 1227 (204.50).

2008PABCONSCLogo_small The 2008 Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) Senior Championships started on Sunday, September 7, with a "Seminar on Lane Play" organized by Kegel and PABCON that was held by 2-time PBA champion and USBC gold level coach Del Warren. The competition begins on Monday with the technical meeting, the Opening Ceremonies, the official practice and a Welcome Party, all at Cibao Bowling Center. 10 countries with maximum four men and four women will compete in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team, All Events and Masters from Sep. 9-13.

Guandique (right), President of the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) has announced on-site adjustments of the conditioning patterns previously published for the 1st Senior Pan American Championships 2008 which will start Cibao Bowling Center in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic on Sunday, September 7. "In bowling modern environment there are many variables and changes that need to be considered at the moment to build a conditioning pattern for a competence," Guandique said.
