Santiago Mejia, Liz Johnson win Singles gold at Pan American Games

In the women's finals, Johnson (l.) defeated Jennifer Park of Canada, 2-0, while Mejia claimed the men's gold medal with a stunningly ruthless 2-0 victory over 13-time PBA champion Chris Barnes, United States.

Team USA men, women dominate Singles Qualifying at Pan American Games

Top 16 division leaders advance to Thursday's single-elimination match play finals

The four U.S. players led the top 16 men and top 16 women into Thursday's single-elimination match play finals. Kelly Kulick (l.) led the women's field with a 12-game total of 2644 (220.33 average), while Chris Barnes (r.) led the men's field with 2849 (237.42).

Chris Barnes and Bill O'Neill (l.) topped the men's field by 193 pins, while Liz Johnson and Kelly Kulick  easily won the women's event by 328 pins at Bolerama Tapatio.

Bowling competition begins at XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara

2011PAGLogo_small.jpgThe XVI Pan American Games is taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14-30, 2011. 36 sports are included in 16th edition of the Pan Am Games. The majority are Olympic sports. Bowling is one of the non-Olympic sports. The bowling competition began today with the official practice at Tapatio Bowling Alley. Competition in Doubles takes place Oct. 24 and 25. Singles will take place on Oct. 26 and 27. 16 countries with two players each participate in two divisions - men and women.

2011PAGLogo_small.jpg The Pan American Games are an Americas version of the Olympic Games which includes the Olympic program sports and others that are not part of the Olympics. The 16th edition of the prestigious event got underway Oct. 15 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 30 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Tenpin bowling is one of 47 medal sports. Competition features Singles and Doubles and will be held from Oct. 24 to 27 at TapatĂ­o Bowling Center in Guadalajara. A total of 19 Pan American Bowling Confederation member federations will participate in this event.

Team USA bowlers ready for Pan American Games experience

For the United States' four bowlers competing next week in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, the experience will be one they rarely get to enjoy while the expectations will be high. Chris Barnes, Bill O'Neill, Liz Johnson and Kelly Kulick will represent Team USA when the bowling competition begins Monday. The four players will stay in the athlete village along with competitors in Olympic sports such as swimming, volleyball and gymnastics.

Canada sends its national champions to compete at the XVI Pan American Games

Caroline Lagrange, Montreal, Quebec and Jennifer Park, Nanaimo, British Columbia, will compete in the women's events. Art Oliver, Jr., Hamilton, Ontario and Mark Buffa, Montreal, QC will be the representatives in the men's competition. The competition will be held at Tapatio Bowling Alley in Guadalajara, Mexico from Oct. 23-27.

Representing the United States in the women's division will be Kelly Kulick (pictured left) of Union, N.J., and Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y. The men's team will be represented by Bill O'Neill (right) of Southampton, Pa. and Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas.

The bowling competition will take place October 24th through 27th, 2011 at Tapatio Bowling Alley in Guadalajara, Mexico. Caroline Lagrange, Montreal, Quebec and Jennifer Willis-Park, Nanaimo, British Columbia will compete in the women's events, while Mark Buffa, Montreal QC and Michael Schmidt, Winnipeg, Manitoba will play in the men's event. The seventh and eighth members of the 2011 Team Canada were also selected.
