Webb (l.), a recent electee to the USBC Hall of Fame, was a clear cut winner as he earned first place votes on all but three ballots, amassing 177 points.The women's balloting was the most tightly contested race in ten years. Veteran bowling writer and PBA Hall of Famer John Archibald died Monday Jan. 3, 2011 at the age of 83 in suburban St. Louis. Archibald, who suffered a stroke approximately two years ago, began a four-decade career at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1949. During his career he was also a general assignment sportswriter, feature writer, and a TV critic but was probably best known as the paper’s bowling columnist. He was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1989.
Author/historian/speaker to receive permanent tribute during Tournament of Champions
Since the formation of the Professional Bowlers Association in 1958, no one has contributed more to the organization in so many different ways than PBA Hall of Famer Chuck Pezzano (pictured). In recognition of the 81-year-old Clifton, N.J., native's contributions to the PBA, his name will be permanently attached to the organization beginning with the introduction of the Chuck Pezzano PBA Press Room during the PBA Tournament of Champions at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas, Jan. 15-22.
Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nevada, has been named the Kegel Bowler of the Month for November 2010 by the Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA). Macpherson defeated Mika Sato, Japan, 300-235, for the women's title of the 34th ABS Japan Open, becoming the second woman to roll a televised perfect game in Japanese Professional Bowlers Association (JPBA) history. The effort earned her a 10,000,000 Yen (US $121,000) bonus and the 3,000,000 Yen (US $36,000) first place prize.
Bill O'Neill of Southampton, Pa., has been named the October 2010 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America. In the 60-game qualifier for the 2010 PBA World Championship, O'Neill averaged nearly 227 becoming the #1 seed for the television finals. He also qualified for match play in four of the five match play rounds in the PBA World Series, featuring 12 games on each of the PBA's five animal patterns. This marks O'Neill's fourth Kegel BWAA Bowler of the Month honor in the last 13 months.
Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York, has been unanimously named the September 2010 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America. Her victories in the month were threefold. First, Johnson became the first woman to win the century-old AMF Petersen Classic with a 1651 eight-game score. The other wins were the Team and All Events gold medals at the Pan American Confederation (PABCON) Women's Championships in Las Vegas.

Bill O'Neill (pictured) of Southampton, Pa., has been named the August 2010 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America. Nicknamed "The Real Deal," the 28-year-old O'Neill captured Singles and All Events crowns at the 2010 World Tenpin Bowling Association's (WTBA) Men's World Championships in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany. O'Neill aptured a third gold medal with his team mates in the five-player Team event.
Marshall Kent of Yakima, Washington, has been named the July 2010 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America. In a span of two weeks, Kent won the prestigious USBC Junior Gold Boys Division Championship presented by Brunswick, as well as the Boys Division in the fifth annual North Pointe Insurance Group $100,000 High School Open Singles Classic. An upcoming senior this fall at West Valley High School, Kent earned an impressive $25,000 in scholarship winnings from the two tournaments.
Team USA 2010 teammates Brenda Edwards, Mansfield, Texas, and John Janawicz, Winter Haven, Florida (pictured left), have been announced as winners of the Bowling Writers Association of America Amateur Bowlers of the Year for 2009. Both bowlers leveraged their 2010 U.S. Team Trials titles held in Las Vegas in December to garner the honors. Janawicz, 37, repeated his 2004 BWAA and Bowlers Journal International Amateur Bowler of the Year performance.

Walt Steinsiek, who served as president of the Bowling Writers Association in 1988, passed away June 27, 2010 of apparent heart failure while preparing to leave his Micco, Florida home to attend International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas. He was 84. Steinsiek was widely known as "The world's greatest bowling cartoonist." He drew thousands of cartoons about the sport he loved, provided mostly without charge to various bowling organizations; but he also published a half dozen bowling cartoon books, the first in 1973, called Balls-Bowling of Course!

For Duke, it is back-to-back crowns, as he also won in 2008, and it is his fourth overall (1994, 2000) Johnson's 2009 award was her third, and her best performances are coming in odd years. She also won in 2005 and 2007. Duke edged Wes Malott, 57-23, while Johnson won handily over Kelly Kulick, 105-43.

Mohr (l.), 53, captured three PBA Senior titles and had the high average for the season with 223.14. Romeo (r.), 52, easily won the female Senior Bowler of the Year honors with her dazzling performance in the USBC Women's Championships in Reno.
