NYC WTT KingPins win inaugural PBA League Elias Cup

Closing string of seven strikes breaks open tight match with Motown Muscle in historic PBA team contest

The PBA League Elias Cup finals, which was contested March 31 at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind., aired Sunday, April 7, on ESPN.

X (pictured), a team of Professional Bowlers Association stars owned by Los Angeles Clippers all-star guard Chris Paul, struck on seven of its first eight shots to build an insurmountable lead over the top qualifiers, Terrell Owens' Dallas Strikers, to win the PBA League Anthony round, 257-214, but it wasn't enough to earn the team a berth in the PBA League Elias Cup finals. The Elias Cup finals will air on Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Billie Jean King's team clinches berth in inaugural Elias Cup Finals in Indianapolis

With their second PBA League stepladder win, the KingPins have earned 44 points to lock up no worse than the No. 2 stepladder position for the Elias Cup finals.

Hometown favorite Motown Muscle team wins PBA League Mark Roth Round

Mike Fagan's 10th-frame spare, strike enough to pull out two-pin victory

201213PBAL03MotownMuscle_small.jpgMotown Muscle anchor bowler Mike Fagan's nine-count spare and strike in the 10th frame was just enough to salvage a 195-193 victory for hometown favorite Jerome Bettis' team (pictured) in the PBA League's Mark Roth round at Thunderbowl Lanes, preventing the New York City WTT KingPins from winning back to back titles. The round was contested Saturday, Jan. 26, during the PBA Winter Swing in Detroit and aired Sunday, Feb. 17 on ESPN.

New York City WTT KingPins win PBA League Carmen Salvino Round

Consecutive strikes by Jones, Weber and Norton topple top-seeded Philadelphia Hitmen


Billie Jean King's New York City WTT KingPins defeated the top qualifying team, Kevin Hart's Philadelphia Hitmen, 222-198, to win the PBA League Carmen Salvino round at Thunderbowl Lanes. With their win in the Salvino round, the KingPins (John Szczerbinski, Jack Jurek, Tommy Jones, Peter Weber and Scott Norton) earned 12 points toward the Elias Cup finals, which will be held March 31 at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis.

Reigning PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash clinches victory with two strikes in 10th frame


Reigning PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash threw two strikes in the 10th frame to clinch a 225-215 victory for his BROOKLYN STyLES team (pictured) over the New York City WTT KingPins in the debut of PBA League team bowling on ESPN Sunday at Thunderbowl Lanes. The STyLES held a two-pin lead heading into the 10th frame. After KingPins' anchor bowler Pete Weber struck and spared in his half of the 10th frame, Rash answered with two strikes to lock up the win.

O'Neill, who posted an eight-game total of 1,915 pins, got help from Hitmen teammates Mika Koivuniemi (1,817), Chris Loschetter (right, 1,797), Mike DeVaney (1,845) and Dick Allen (1,720).

PBA League makes its debut on ESPN Sunday at noon with live first round telecast

2012PBALeagueLogo_small.jpgThe Professional Bowlers Association departs from its traditional Tour schedule for a live telecast of the first round of the historic PBA League Sunday (Jan. 27) at noon ET from Thunderbowl Lanes in suburban Detroit. The eight-team PBA League, featuring celebrity owners and an all-star roster of PBA Tour players, will make its debut on ESPN during the live two-hour opening round telecast. The team championship will be decided during the PBA League Elias Cup Finals on Sunday, March 31.

Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams becomes eighth PBA League owner


Jesse Williams, who stars as Dr. Jackson Avery on the hit ABC series Grey's Anatomy, will be the eighth and final owner of a PBA League team in its inaugural 2013 season. PBA Commissioner Tom Clark announced that Williams will be the owner of the BROOKLYN STyLES. His team includes reigning PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash, PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr., four-time Tour winner Ryan Shafer, Tour titlist Ryan Ciminelli, Jason Sterner and supplemental pick Tom Hess, the 2011 USBC Masters champion.

To make that happen, King completed a trade with Motown Muscle owner Jerome Bettis, acquiring PBA Tour champion Kelly Kulick to her KingPins' roster in exchange for two-time PBA titlist Brad Angelo.

Comedian/Comedy podcast guru Chris Hardwick becomes a PBA League team owner

Hardwick is the owner of the Silver Lake (Calif.) Atom Splitters team which features franchise player 2007-08 Player of the Year and 14-time PBA Tour titlist Chris Barnes, Nathan Bohr, British stars Dom Barrett and Stuart Williams, and 2011-12 PBA Rookie of the Year Josh Blanchard.

Steelers Linebacker LaMarr Woodley becomes fifth PBA League owner

Woodley joins Los Angeles Clippers star guard Chris Paul, former Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis, former NFL all-pro receiver Terrell Owens and actor/comedian Kevin Hart as owners in the PBA League which debuts as part of the PBA Detroit Winter Swing Jan. 19-27 at Thunderbowl Lanes in the Detroit suburb of Allen Park, Mich.

Rhino Page is first pick as Franchise Players select teams for PBA League rosters

Norm Duke wins first pick in inaugural PBA League draft

The PBA League makes its debut in suburban Detroit in January. The first PBA League Draft will be held Friday at 10 a.m. PT at South Point Bowling Center. The top eight players from 2011-12 PBA Tour points will select four additional players (plus a supplemental player) to fill out their teams for the PBA League.
