Bill O'Neill tops Oklahoma Open qualifying, leads top 18 players into Thursday's match play round

2014PBAPatrickAllen_small.jpgHoping to redeem himself after bowling a 168 in the final game of Monday's PBA Wolf Open second round to miss the stepladder finals, 13-time PBA Tour winner Patrick Allen (pictured) of Mount Kisco, N.Y., led Badger Open first round qualifying Wednesday. In the third tournament of the Oklahoma's Grand Casino Hotel & Resort PBA Summer Swing, Allen bowled a 1,425 pinfall total (237.5 average) with games of 259, 222, 224, 223, 286 and 211 in the first round to lead 18 players into the Badger Open second round.

PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke earns top berth for PBA Bear Open finals

Bill O'Neill, Jason Belmonte, Tommy Jones and Brad Angelo also make finals

2015PBA08Finalists_small.jpg PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke of Clermont, Fla., averaged 225.3 Tuesday to earn the top qualifying berth for the stepladder finals of the PBA Bear Open at FireLake Bowling Center. Duke, who ranks third on the all-time PBA Tour win list with 38 titles, earned the top spot with a 2,704 12-game pinfall total bowling games of 198, 280, 234, 232, 212 and 215 in Tuesday evening's final qualifying round. Joining Duke in the finals are Bill O'Neill, Jason Belmonte, Tommy Jones and Brad Angelo.

Peters leads 18 players who advanced to Tuesday evening's second six-game round which will determine the top five players who will advance to Saturday's Bear Open stepladder finals to be held on the special lane installation at the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort Event Center at 2:30 p.m. CT.

2015PBA07Finalists_small.jpg Marshall Kent, the 2014 PBA Rookie of the Year, averaged 240.2 Monday at FireLake Bowling Center Shawnee, Okla., to earn the top berth for Saturday's PBA Wolf Open stepladder finals. Kent, who was ninth after the first round, completed the 12-game qualifying portion of the Wolf Open with a 2,883 pinfall total to take the top spot by 47 pins over Bill O'Neill in second with 2,836. Joining Kent and O'Neill in the finals are Kyle Troup, Andres Gomez and Tommy Jones.

2014PBAPatrickAllen_small.jpgLooking to end a six-year drought without a win, 13-time Professional Bowlers Association Tour titlist Patrick Allen (pictured left) of Mount Kisco, N.Y., averaged 243.5 to lead after the first round of the PBA Wolf Open at FireLake Bowling Center in Shawnee, Okla.. Allen, whose last win came in the 2009 Dydo Japan Cup, bowled games of 257, 211, 236, 213, 268 and 276 for a 1,461 six-game pinfall total. He led a field of 18 qualifiers into Monday night's second six-game qualifying round on the 32-foot Wolf lane conditioning pattern.

X at Bayside Bowl. At the close of the competition – eight days after escaping serious injury in an automobile accident – Silver Lake anchor bowler Dick Allen was selected as the PBA League's Mark Roth Most Valuable Player.

X survived an intense semifinal round, capped by two more sudden-death roll-offs, to advance to the third annual PBA League Elias Cup Finals. The semifinal round, which aired last Sunday on ESPN, completed a highly-competitive Baker team series at Bayside Bowl which saw all six best-of-two-game elimination matches decided by sudden-death roll-offs.

After quarterfinal wins by the Pittsburgh Jack Rabbits and L.A. X last Sunday, the semifinal field for the third annual PBA League Elias Cup Playoffs is set for Sunday's telecast (April 12) on ESPN at 2 p.m. ET. In best-of-two-game Baker format team matches, the Jack Rabbits will meet L.A. X while the BROOKLyN STyLES will battle the defending champion Silver Lake Atom Splitters. The two semifinal winners will advance to the Elias Cup Finals on ESPN Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m. ET.

The road to the PBA League Elias Cup continues with quarterfinal action Sunday, April 5 on ESPN from Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine. The third and fourth quarterfinal matches will air at 3:30 p.m. ET when the Pittsburgh Jack Rabbits meet the Dallas Strikers followed by the fourth quarterfinal Baker format match between Motown Muscle and L.A. X. The four quarterfinal round winners will advance to the semifinal round on ESPN on Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m. ET.

Nine days later, Josh Blanchard wins again in PBA Xtra Frame Maine Shootout

2015PBA06JoshBlanchard_small.jpgNine days after winning his first PBA Tour title in Germany, Josh Blanchard (pictured left with Bayside Bowl co-owner Justin Alfond) of Gilbert, Ariz., made it back-to-back titles, winning the PBA's Xtra Frame Maine Shootout at Bayside Bowl Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Australia's Jason Belmonte in the best-of-three-game title match. Blanchard, fresh off his first career win in the Brunswick Euro Challenge, won five consecutive best-of-three-game matches on his way to the title.

Sixteen survivors advance in PBA Xtra Frame Maine Shootout

Upsets highlight opening round as four PBA Hall of Famers, former Players of Year fall

2015PBALogo_small.jpgSixteen players survived the opening two rounds of the PBA Xtra Frame Maine Shootout at Bayside Bowl Monday, but four PBA Hall of Famers and four former PBA Players of the Year were sidelined in the single-elimination matches. The Maine Shootout ends Tuesday when the 16 players who advanced from Monday's competition will continue to bowl best-of-three matches until a winner is decided. All of the competition will be covered live on PBA's exclusive online bowling channel, Xtra Frame.

All PBA League competition will take place at Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine, as part of a six-day "Maine Event" which gets underway on Thursday, March 26. Competition officially gets underway on Saturday, March 28, with two PBA League quarterfinal round elimination matches.

General Mills brand to debut during PBA League Elias Cup playoffs in Portland, Maine

X later this month at Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine. Wheaties is well known for featuring prominent athletes on the exterior of the package (pictured: Muhammad Ali, 2012). The sponsorship package will include on-site signage during the PBA League Elias Cup Playoffs, as well as 30-second commercials on the four ESPN telecasts originating from the event.

Malott helps Duke win 38th title in Roth/Holman PBA Doubles Championship

PBA's "odd couple" successfully defends 2011 title; Duke moves into third place on all-time PBA Tour titles list

2015PBA03WesMalottNormDuke_small.jpgPBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke with the help of partner Wes Malott successfully defended their Mark Roth/Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championship, giving Duke his 38th career title and sole possession of third place on the all-time PBA titles list. Duke (l.), who stands 5-foot-6 and weighs 128 pounds, teamed up with Malott (r.), at 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, to defeat international stars Dom Barrett and Osku Palermaa, 228-203, for a victory that also gave Malott 10 career titles.
