As an athlete who is gay, the 2012-13 PBA Player of the Year contender knows very well what the ramifications of being openly gay can mean to someone who makes a living in sports.

BowlU unveils PBA Player Development Program

Camps to be held in seven PBA regions beginning this summer

Benoit is one of the sport's most respected instructors. He founded BowlU three years ago and has been designing a specific program to help elite-level players improve ever since.

Veteran PBA Tour announcing team to cover five events from Milwaukee

2013GEICOPBASummerSwingLogo_small.jpgVeteran Professional Bowlers Association announcer Dave Ryan returns as play-by-play announcer for the PBA, partnering with color analyst Randy Pedersen, for the five-event GEICO PBA Summer Swing series on CBS Sports Network. Ryan, who served as Voice of the PBA for five years (2002-07), joined CBS Sports Network in 2009 and has spent the past four years covering college football, basketball and baseball, college and professional lacrosse, as well as professional tennis.

New award to recognize PBA member's role in giving back to the public

The award will be presented to a PBA member in good standing, based upon the extraordinary community service, charitable and/or educational contributions the nominee has made.

Doug Kent, Danny Wiseman inducted into PBA Hall of Fame during ceremonies in Indianapolis

2013PBAHoFLogo_small.jpgDoug Kent of Newark, N.Y., the winner of 10 PBA Tour titles, and 12-time champion Danny Wiseman of Baltimore were inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame for superior performance during ceremonies in Indianapolis Saturday night. Wiseman, 45, joined the PBA in 1987 and has earned just over $1.55 million. Kent, also 45, joined the PBA in 1988 and has earned just over $1.51 million during his career. In the voting for the 50 Greatest Players in PBA History in 2009, Wiseman was ranked 42nd and Kent 43rd.



PBA Experience League bowlers can win a spot in a PBA Regional

2013WinASpotPromotion_small.jpg The PBA is giving United States Bowling Congress Sport bowling members the opportunity to earn a free entry into a PBA regional tournament through the PBA Experience Win-A-Spot promotion. USBC has teamed with the PBA to award members of the winning team of PBA Experience leagues a paid entry into a PBA regional event. The offer is valid for PBA Experience leagues that started after Jan. 1, 2013, and end by December 31, 2013.

Defending PBA Tournament of Champions winner and reigning Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash (pictured) didn't feel any special urgency to win the 2012 edition of the PBA's signature tournament. But as it turned out, Rash's victory in the TOC was the defining moment in his first Player of the Year campaign.

Coverage to debut with new GEICO PBA Summer Swing series in Milwaukee in June

The agreement, announced Tuesday by PBA CEO Geoff Reiss and Dan Weinberg, Senior Vice President, Programming, CBS Sports Network, includes five two-hour telecasts featuring stepladder finalists from four PBA Summer Swing events, and concludes with a GEICO PBA Summer King of the Swing special event.

For the second year in row, the bowling industry has teamed up with the brand's ready-to-drink portfolio for a principal sponsorship deal to lead the industry's preeminent bowling tournament. The 2013 Bowling's U.S. Open will be held in Columbus, Ohio, beginning July 20, and will combine the Men's, Women's and Senior Women's tournaments.

New version of PBA bowling game for mobile devices soars to No. 1 free sports game

PBA World Series of Bowling V returns to South Point in Las Vegas in October

The fourth consecutive World Series hosted by South Point will again feature four "animal pattern" championships, the PBA World Championship and the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour men's and women's finals.

Kent and Wiseman will be inducted during the PBA's Hall of Fame dinner on Saturday, March 30, in Indianapolis.

Detroit Winter Swing, inaugural PBA League ready to roll

PBA returns to Milwaukee for multi-event Summer Swing in May 2013

Four tournaments to be conducted in three bowling centers

201213PBATourLogo_small.jpgAfter a five-year absence, the PBA will return to the Milwaukee area with a unique four-tournament, three bowling center Summer Swing in late May. The PBA Summer Swing will include two-day tournaments at AMF Waukesha just west of Milwaukee, AMF West in Milwaukee proper and AMF Bowlero in suburban Wauwatosa. Each of the three events will produce a five-player stepladder final which will be televised on a tape-delayed basis, and the qualifying rounds of the three preliminary events will serve as a foundation for a fourth championship tournament.

"First Lady of the PBA" Rainy Stitzlein dies in Akron

Eddie Elias' executive assistant, only woman in PBA Hall of Fame, dies at age 84

20121130PBARainyStitzlein_small.jpg Lorraine (Rainy) Stitzlein, arguably the most influential woman in PBA history, died on Friday, Nov. 30 in Akron, Ohio. She was 84. The only woman inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame was PBA founder Eddie Elias' executive assistant and business secretary in the organization's formation years. But she was much more than an office manager. If Elias was the father of the PBA, Stitzlein was the "mother, midwife, nurse, aunt, cousin and hostess," a sports writer once wrote.
