Mike Edwards enters All-In Showdown as continuing tribute to "little brother"

Oklahoma veteran will ride emotional rollercoaster into PBA World Series of Bowling special event

201011PBAMikeEdwards_small.jpgOver the past 12 months, PBA veteran Mike Edwards (pictured) of Tulsa, Okla., has been on a rollercoaster of emotions, ranging from the depths of sadness over the death of his father and his "little brother," Tony Reyes, to the peaks of rediscovered confidence and passion for the sport. Whether the next step will be a peak or valley, Edwards will find out on Friday, Nov. 2. He is the first to put up the $5,000 entry fee for the second edition of the PBA All-In Showdown, that will kick off the PBA World Series of Bowling IV.

PBA Tour Champion Tony Reyes dies from injuries suffered in car accident


The sport of bowling was shaken Friday with the news that PBA Tour champion Tony Reyes had been killed in a car accident in California. Reyes, 38, who competed in 14 seasons on the PBA Tour, won his lone Tour title in dramatic fashion in the 2006 Motor City Classic in Detroit. Reyes, of San Bruno, Calif., cut back on Tour competition in recent seasons to concentrate on his pro shop business and coaching. According to the San Bruno Patch News website, the accident occurred in the early morning hours Friday in the town of Redwood City.

33rd PBA Tour season TV coverage begins December 9 on ESPN

16-event winter-spring segment includes 11 two-hour shows, live coverage of major championships

201213PBATourLogo_small.jpgThe PBA's 33rd consecutive season of television coverage on ESPN begins with 16 telecasts, including 11 shows expanded from 90 minutes to two hours, and live coverage of two major championships plus the first round of an all-new team competition. The winter-spring PBA television season on ESPN begins on Sunday, Dec. 9, PBA Commissioner Tom Clark and ESPN Senior Director of Programming and Acquisitions Jason Bernstein announced today.

PBA Hall of Famer Randy Pedersen to celebrate 12th year as color analyst

McEachern is the newest addition to a distinguished list of announcers who have called PBA action over a span of more than five decades while Pedersen will celebrate his 12th anniversary as ESPN's PBA Tour color analyst.

Teen Masters and PBA announce licensing agreement for standardized bowling balls

20120922TeenMastersLogo_small.jpg 201112PBALogo_small.jpgKiller 'B' Promotions (KBP) and the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) have announced the signing of an exclusive licensing agreement under which KBP will create and market a line of PBA-branded bowling balls for use in the Teen Masters. The licensing agreement is part of a joint effort by the PBA and KBP to spur the growth of competitive youth bowling.

MOTIV Bowling upgrades Registered Product Company status for 2012-13 PBA Tour season


To keep pace with its growth as a bowling ball manufacturer, MOTIV Bowling has upgraded its involvement as a PBA Registered Product Company to "Full Registration" for the 2012-13 season. Previously, MOTIV had been a Limited Registered company, but upgraded its involvement to "Full" to take advantage of PBA's expanded domestic and international activities. MOTIV's player staff for 2012-13 will include three-time PBA Tour champion Dick Allen, Lee Vanderhoef, Brett Spangler and Jake Peters

Regional Animal Pattern series sends 35 players to PBA World Series of Bowling IV

Average entries show increase in experimental tournament series

201112PBALogo_small.jpgThe PBA's experimental regional "animal pattern" championship series has produced 35 paid entries into PBA World Series of Bowling IV and a significant increase in the average number of entries in PBA Regional tournaments between March and August of 2012, John Weber, PBA Director of Regional and Senior Tours, announced Monday. The inaugural animal pattern series featured Cheetah, Viper, Scorpion and Chameleon Championships in each of the PBA's seven regions.

Dave Soutar concludes career after more than half-century of PBA competition

2012PBAS09DaveJudySoutar2_small.jpgProfessional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Dave Soutar (pictured with wife Judy) ended his career in PBA competition in appropriate fashion during the final day of qualifying of the PBA Senior Decatur Open presented by Brunswick Monday — before a big crowd and throwing three strikes in the 10th frame of his last game. It brought an end to more than a half-century of PBA competition for the 72-year-old who won 18 titles on the PBA Tour and seven on the Senior Tour.

PBA Senior Tour to become 'PBA50 Tour' in 2013

New name will celebrate age milestone as new stars enter Tour

PBA50Logo_small.jpg The PBA Senior Tour will be re-named as the PBA50 Tour beginning with the 2013 season, PBA Commissioner Tom Clark announced today from the PBA Senior Decatur Open presented by Brunswick, the concluding tournament of the 2012 Senior Tour season. "The word 'senior' is outdated and the title PBA50 more accurately reflects the vibrancy of the players and our competition in this age group," Clark said. The change in name is underscored by the continuing stream of stars to the over-50 circuit.

PBA's Tournament of Champions returns to traditional exclusive field

Field of 48 current PBA Tour champions to head to Indianapolis for 2012-13 winter segment finale

201213PBATourLogo_small.jpgThe 48th edition of the Professional Bowlers Association Tournament of Champions will return to its traditional roots in March of 2013 when it will feature an exclusive field featuring 48 PBA Tour champions plus any previous TOC winners who elect to participate. The Tournament of Champions will be held at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis, March 26-31, concluding with a live five-player stepladder final airing on ESPN. First prize in the TOC will be $50,000.

Fairleigh Dickinson and Team USA star Danielle McEwan earns 2012 PBA Billy Welu Scholarship


Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, N.Y., who helped the Junior Team USA girls win the team gold medal at the 2012 WTBA World Youth Championships, has been selected as winner of the Professional Bowlers Association's 2012 Billy Welu Scholarship. McEwan, who will be entering her senior year at Fairleigh Dickinson University this fall, holds a 3.5 grade point average and is majoring in psychology with plans to pursue a Masters degree in elementary education. The 20-year-old is a member of Team USA as well as Junior Team USA for 2012.

Fans select Sean Rash as "Best Bowler" ESPY Award winner


Sean Rash followed up his 2011-12 Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year crown by receiving the 2012 "Best Bowler" ESPY Award during the 20th Annual ESPY Awards ceremony at the Nokia Theatre Wednesday evening. Rash (pictured left) became the fans' choice in the bowling category thanks to a 2011-12 Tour season in which the 29-year-old right-hander won the season-ending PBA Tournament of Champions for his only title, but had six championship round finishes, including third place in the PBA World Championship.

Even the length of many TV shows will be increased. The PBA schedule will include two World Series of Bowling, five major championships, new Winter and Summer Swing open events with multiple titles at stake, and an estimated 15 World Bowling Tour stops that will award PBA Tour titles if won by PBA members and PBA International members.

Professional Bowlers Association joins forces with Killer 'B' Promotions

Teen Masters World Series and PBA Super Regionals will be conducted during the 2012-13 Season

201112PBALogo_small.jpgThe Teen Masters will conduct the first Teen Masters World Series in conjunction with PBA World Series of Bowling IV in November, and selected PBA Super Regional events will be conducted during the 2012-13 season under a new agreement between Killer 'B' Promotions and the Professional Bowlers Association. In 2011-12 18 TM qualifiers were held in conjunction with selected PBA regionals, giving youth bowlers an opportunity to rub elbows with the greats in the game.

During a break in the action at the Etonic PBA Senior U.S. Open Tuesday at the Suncoast, Ron Mohr (center), Ricky Beck (left) and Ray Randall (right) were presented with their 2011 Senior Tour awards live on the PBA's online channel Xtra Frame. Mohr, of Eagle River, Alaska, may have experienced the most successful year ever in dominating the 2011 PBA Senior Tour schedule winning a record-tying four titles in the 10 PBA Senior Tour events he entered.

Professional Bowlers Association announces 2011-12 Regional Tour Awards

Josh Blanchard adds West and Northwest Region Rookie of the Year awards to his PBA Tour ROY honor

Blanchard's awards were part of the PBA's announcement of regular and senior regional awards for the 2011-12 season. Blanchard, of Gilbert, Ariz., had one win in each region while cashing and making match play in all five events he entered.
