Barrett, Barnes, Palermaa atop the leader board after Final Round Two in Vienna

    Top 18 advance to the last round before the finals; second round pinfall will be carried forward; last woman eliminated in Round Two

Barrett, who had a 1449 series in Round One, had games of 221, 264, 279, 211, 212 and 268 to lead the top 18 players into the next round with 1455 total and an average of 242.50.

    Opposite to the first round, Barrett will carry forward his pinfall total into the last round before the cut to the top 4 for the stepladder finals.

    The photo on top shows "Theras", a black pug, who has become the mascot of the tournament, and "Ottakringer", the official beer at Plus Bowling.

    Trailing the 2010 European Bowling Tour ranking champion by just six pins is 13-time PBA champion and WTBA world champion, Chris Barnes (above right), who toppled 1455 pins including a 279 high game.

    Rounding out the top four, who will make it to the stepladder final after another six-game block in Round Three, was Palermaa's compatriot Pasi Uotila (right), who totaled 1380 pins including a 275 opening game.

    Qualifying leader Martin Larsen and Johan Helldén, both Sweden, are just 21 and 28 pins off the pace for the top 4 in fifth and sixth place with 1359 and 1352, respectively.

    Five players battled it out for the 18th and last place to advance finishing within eight pins after six games. Tim Friedrichs (right), Germany, hit the cutoff number with 1268 and beat out 2007 Vienna Open champion Dennis Eklund, Sweden, by two pins.

    The last remaining woman, Clara Juliana Guerrero of Colombia, missed the third cut by eight pins in 22nd place with 1260. It was the second EBT ranking title this season for Guerrero, who moves into fourth place in the 2011 EBT women's ranking.

    2011VOLogo_small.jpg 2011EBT17PerttuJussilaMartinLarsen.jpg The 9th Columbia 300 Vienna Open is the 17th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the last of six EBT "Gold" tournaments this season. 324 players featuring 270 men and 54 women from 28 countries competed for total prize fund of 70.630 Euro (approx. $95,000) - 60.400 € for Singles and 10.230 € for the Doubles event.

    The singles champion receives the 7.000 € top prize, the runner-up earns 5.000 and the third-place finisher gets 3.500 Euro. The doubles winners, Martin Larsen, Sweden, and Perttu Jussila (r-l), Finland, split 1.600 €.

    The 9th Columbia 300 Vienna Open features a 41 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 26.2ml volume oil total.

    The qualifying of the Vienna Open was traditionally contested as a Doubles tournament with separate prize money. Each duo rolled at least one six-game block. Unlimited re-entries with different partners were possible but each player could only cash once with the same partner. A total of 358 doubles participated in this year's qualifying.

    Qualifying ran from Tuesday through Saturday and concluded with Squad 17 Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. and ended with the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad on Saturday night which drew record 70 players. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 64 players survived the first cut of the 9th Columbia 300 Vienna Open at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria.

    The finals started Sunday morning a 8 a.m. CET with the first round in which all but the top 8 qualifiers face off. Those 56 players bowl 6 games scratch to cut to the top 22, who will join the top 8 qualifiers in Round Two.

    The remaining 30 players bowled another 6 games scratch after which the field was trimmed to the top 18, who will carry their pinfall forward into Round Three. After another 6-game block the top 4 with the highest 12-game total will advance to the stepladder finals.

    The No. 4 seed meets the No. 3 in the opening match and the winner takes on the No. 2 seed for the right to bowl the top seed for the title, 150 ranking points and the 7.000 Euro top prize.

    Since the English Open has lost its EBT status, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 20 tour stops in 16 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, six Silver and six Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the Vienna Open gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on single lane condition.
