2011PAGLogo.jpgThe XVI Pan American Games is taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14-30, 2011. The Games are organized by ODEPA - the Pan American Games movement which consists of National Olympic Committees and International Sports Federations that are recognized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) who decides which sports are included in the games.

36 sports are included in 16th edition of the Pan American Games. The majority are Olympic sports. The sports involved in the Pan Am Games belong to the Association for Pan Am Sport ACODEPA whose goal is the 'development of Pan Am sports'.

PABCONJoseGuandique_small.jpgThe Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) is a member of ACODEPA. Every four years, ACODEPA holds a meeting to elect its officers. At a recent meeting, Ivar Sisniega, Vice President of Modern Pentathlon was elected as President and International Hockey Federation Vice President, Antonio Von Ondarza was elected first Vice President.

Three additional vice presidents were elected, including PABCON President, Jose Guandique (pictured right) of El Salvador.

This is very significant as bowling is one of the non-Olympic sports in the Pan American Games and it is very important in the quest for Olympic status to stay involved. This election will give Guandique the opportunity to promote the sport of bowling to other executives of Olympic sports.

The bowling competition of the 2011 Pan American Games began today with the official practice. The competition is taking place at Tapatio Bowling Alley from Oct. 24-27.

15 PABCON member federation each in the men's and women's division qualified to compete at the 2009 Pan American Bowling Championships held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mexico as host is the 16th country participating.

Competition in Doubles takes place Oct. 24 and 25. Singles will take place on Oct. 26 and 27. Each team in the men's and in the women's division consists of two players.
