2nd Ebonite Roma International is underway in Italy

The 2nd Ebonite Roma International kicked off Saturday with the first three of 22 qualifying squads at Brunswick Bowling Rome in Rome, Italy.
Saverio Tuccimei (pictured right) set the tone in Squad 2 with 1247 six-game total and an average of 207.83. Tuccimei, who led the inaugural event last year after the first weekend, had games of 225, 203, 186, 202, 194 and 237 to hold a 47 pin lead over second place Raffaele Formisano.
Formisano led Squad 3 with 1200 and was followed by Davide Spagnoli in third place with 1187 and Raffaella Fusco, who was the best woman in fourth place with 1150 including handicap.
Italian bowlers occupy the top 9 spots. Maria Rafaelita Figueroa of the Philippines is the best foreigner in tenth place with 1130.
Qualifying continues on Sunday, Nov. 6, with Squads 4 and 5 scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. CET time.
The 2nd Ebonite Roma International is the 19th and penultimate stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the last of six "Satellite" events of the 2011 EBT season. The tournament will be held from Saturday Nov. 5 through Sunday Nov. 13, 2011 at 24-lane Brunswick Bowling in Rome, Italy.
The tournament offers total prize money of 25.900 Euro with 5.000 Euro going to the winner, 2.500 Euro to the first runner-up and 1.000 Euro each to the third and fourth place finishers.

In the inaugural Ebonite Roma International 2010, Perttu Jussila (pictured left) of Finland captured his first European Bowling Tour title by defeating PBA exempt player, Stuart Williams, England, in the title match, 225-188, en route to earn the 5.000 Euro top prize.
In the semifinals Jussila and Williams eliminated German women's national team members Patricia Luoto and Birgit Pöppler. As the higher seed, Luoto (right) finished third to win the women's ranking.
The 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 20 tour stops in 16 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, six Silver and six Satellite tournaments.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the 2nd Ebonite Roma International gets 50 ranking points.
The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on single lane condition.
Qualifying of the 2nd Ebonite Roma International (6 games, unlimited re-entries) runs through Saturday, Nov. 12 and ends with Squad 22 and the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad scheduled for 9.45 p.m. local time (CET). Women will receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.
The 2nd Ebonite Roma International features a 40 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 23.40ml volume oil total.
A total of 50 players - the top 38 from the qualifying, plus the top four of the squads conducted on Nov. 5-6 (Squads 1-5), plus the top 4 of the squads conducted on Nov. 7-9 (Squads 6-11), plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - will advance to the finals on Sunday, Nov. 13.
The top 8 qualifiers will earn three byes and will be seeded into Final Round 4. Positions 9-16 will get two byes and positions 17-28 will bypass the first round of the finals.
The other 22 players will bowl 4 games scratch. The top 10 will advance to the second round. After another four-game block scratch the top 8 will advance to first round of single-elimination match play (third round overall) with the two-game total pinfall to determine the winner.
In all matches the highest seeded player will bowl the lowest seeded player, the second highest will bowl the second lowest, etc. The field will be cut to 16, 8, four and then two, who will determine the champion in a single-game match.
