Thai women, Malaysian men win Trios titles at 26th Southeast Asian Games

    2011SEAGamesLogo.jpg Yanee Saebe, Tanaprang Sathean and Angkana Netvriseth of Thailand and Malaysia's Adrian Ang, Zulmazran Zulkifli and Alex Liew earned the gold medals in the women's and men's Trios event at the 26th Southeast Asian Games Thursday at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

    Trailing Singapore by 39 pins heading into the last game, the Thai women posted a huge 676 game on the 35 ft short oil pattern to help secure the first gold medal of the Games for Thailand with 3777 pinfall total and an average of 209.83.

    Singapore's Daphne Tan, Cherie Tan and Jazreel Tan, who led the field after the first three-game block on the 45 ft long oil pattern finished with 623 to take the silver medal with 3763 (209.06).

    Their compatriots New Hui Fen, Jasmine Yeong-Nathan and Shayna Ng were 100 pins behind to capture the bronze medal with 3663 (203.50). The Malaysian trios finished 47 and 115 pins off the pace for the medals in fourth and fifth place.

    Doubles champions Ang and Liew and teamed with Zulkifli to win the men's title with 3874 pinfall total and an average of 215.22. Their team mates Muhd Nur Aiman, Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan and Aaron Kong were 171 pins behind in second place to take the silver medal with 3703 (205.72).

    The Philippines with Biboy Rivera, Singles champion Frederick Ong and Raoul Miranda were 75 pins behind in third place to take the bronze medal with 3628 (201.56).

    30 women and 41 men from seven countries - Brunei (men only), Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam (men only) compete in the 26th SEA Games bowling competition for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Teams and Master match play.
