Singaporean women, Malaysian men win Team gold at Southeast Asian Games

    Top 16 men and women in All Events advance to Masters finals

    2011SEAGamesLogo.jpg The Singaporean women and the Malaysian men cruised to the gold medal in the five-player Team event of the 24th Southeast Asian Games Friday at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

    Singapore's Cherie Tan, New Hui Fen, Daphne Tan, Shayna Ng, Jazreel Tan and Jasmine Yeong-Nathan outaveraged their nearest competitor by more than 16 pins to easily win the women's team title with 6332 total and an average of 211.07,

    Trailing by 486 pins to earn the silver medal were the Indonesian women, who captured the first medal for the host country with 5846 (194.87). The Malaysian women topped Thailand in the last game, 965 to 838 to take the bronze medal with 5788 (192.93).

    Thailand finished fourth with 5696 (189.87) with the Philippines in fifth place at 5542 (184.73).

    Malaysia's Adrian Ang, Alex Liew, Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan, Zulmazran Zulkifli, Aaron Kong and Muhd Nur Aiman toppled 6241 pins and averaged 208.03 for six games to win the men's title by 209 pins over second-place Philippines with 6032 (201.07).

    The Indonesian men added a bronze medal to the women's silver finishing with 5873 (195.77). Singapore was fourth with 5787 (192.90) and was followed by Thailand in fifth place with 5771 (192.37), Vietnam in sixth place with 5523 (184.10) and Brunei in seventh place with 5348 (178.27).

    Jazreel Tan, Singapore, led the 30 women from five countries in All Events (combined results in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Teams) with 5196 and an average of 216.50 for 16 games, while Adrian Ang, Malaysia, topped the 41 men from seven countries with 5229 (217.88). Traditionally, no medals are given in All Events at SEA Games.

    The top 16 women and the top 16 men advanced to the Masters finals which will conclude the bowling competition on Saturday and Sunday.

    30 women and 41 men from seven countries - Brunei (men only), Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam (men only) compete in the 26th SEA Games bowling competition for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Teams and Master match play.
