Wu Siu Hong, Wendy Chai repeat as winners in the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions

    2011ABFTToCWendyChaiWuSiuHong.jpgWu Siu Hong (pictured right) of Hong Kong and Malaysia's Wendy Chai (left) captured the men's and women's titles in the 2011 ABF Tour Tournament of Champions, the season-ending event of the 2011 Asian Bowling Federation Tour, Wednesday at Cozmo Bowling Center in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

    It was the second win for the Siu Hong after 2006 while Chai cruised to her third career victory in the ToC. When Siu Hong won his first title, Chai also won the women's title.

    2011ABFTToCWuSiuHongEricTseng.jpgThe men's final was an all-Hong Kong affair with top seeded Siu Hong and No. 2 seed, Eric Tseng (pictured right), squaring off. The two national team members spend a couple of weeks of practice in the United States in January and February competing in the USBC Masters, WTBA International Open and The International Mini.

    Siu Hong, who averaged 240 in the preliminaries to earn the No. 1 seed, ousted Annop Arromsaranon, Thailand, in the quarterfinal, 228-213, and had some hard work to do before he eliminated Kuwait's Mohamed Al-Zaidan in the semifinal, 58-47 in roll-off after a 225-225 tie.

    Tseng, who took the No. 2 seed by averaging 235 in the prelimns, topped Shaker Al-Hassan, UAE, 214-192, and Yannaphon Larp-apharat, Thailand, 247-219, to advance to the title match.

    2011ABFTToCWuSiuHong.jpgSiu Hong (left) doubled in the second and third frame to take a 25-pin lead and never looked back. 27-year-old right-hander reeled off a seven-bagger starting in frame five to easily defeat his compatriot, who suffered three open frames, 267-164.

    Siu Hong received the $20,000 top prize. Tseng pocketed $8,000 for second place while Al-Zaidan and Yannaphon took $4,000 apiece.

After averaging 227 in the preliminaries to earn the No. 2 seed for the women's single-elimination finals, Chai easily defeated compatriot Hee Kar Yen, 212-146, and Indonesia's Novie Phang, 205-139, to earn her spot in the title match.

    Jo Hyun Jung of Korea, seeded fourth booked the other spot by defeating Angkana Netvriseth, Thailand, 242-215, and Sharon Limansantoso , Indonesia, 236-201. Limansantoso edged her team mate, top seeded Tannya Roumimper, in the opening round, 226-224.

    In the women's title match, the 34-year-old Malaysian started with three spares while the Korean sandwiched a strike between two spare to take a slim lead. Chai then reeled off five consecutive strikes to put the title practically out of reach for Jo. Chai sealed her third victory at the ToC with two spares and a strike on the fill ball, 235-195.

    The women's champion earned $10,000 while Jo received 5,000 for second place. Limansantoso and Phang each garnered $3,000.
