Englishman shoots 1428 to take over 11th place; Venezuela's Ruiz was the only other player to move into the top 52; Cut for 52nd place is now 1356 (226 avg.)

2012EBT04RaymondTeece2.jpg2012EBT04JoshBlanchard2.jpgRaymond Teece (pictured left) of England rolled a 1428 series in the penultimate qualifying squad 24 to jump into 11th place in the qualifying of the Brunswick Euro Challenge Saturday evening at Plaza Bowling St. Maximin, France.

Teece was 150 over (based on a 200 average) after five games and knew he would need a 276 final game to overtake 12th placed Martin Larsen due to the higher last game. The top 12 will bypass the first round of the finals on Sunday morning starting at 8 a.m. Central European Summer Time.

The right-hander started with nine strikes in a row before a 10-pin spoiled his bid for the second 300 game of the tournament. He spared and left another 10-pin standing on his fill ball for 278 to tie Josh Blanchard (above right), United States, at 1428.

2012EBT04DinoCastillo2.jpg2012EBT04SeaRash.jpgAccording to the tournament rules a tie is broken by the higher last game. Teece (278) rocketed from 90th to 11th place while Blanchard (270) slipped one spot to 12th place,

Tom Hess, United States, remained unchallenged and continued to lead the field of 398 players, 81 women and 317 men, from 35 countries with 1533 and an average of 255.50.

Dino Castillo (left) and Sean Rash (right) of the United States, who sit in second and fourth place with 1531 and 1488, respectively, practiced for tomorrows finals. Castillo totaled 1376 including a 277 high game and Rash used back-to-back 260s for 1366.

2012EBT04IldemaroRuiz2.jpg2012EBT04MikStampe.jpgIldemaro Ruiz (left) of Venezuela was the only other player to move into the top 52. Ruiz, who made three TV shows during the 2011 PBA World Series of Bowling, started with 275 and added four games between 204 and 216 before he closed out with a 235 game for 1359, good for 48th place. However, a single-pin miss in the last frame cost him a position in the top 40.

Cassie Staudinger, Australia, slipped to 49th place with 1359 and the lower last game than Ruiz, 194-235. Mik Stampe (right), Denmark, and Sin Li Jane, Malaysia, were in 50th and 51st place with 1358 and Pascal Winternheimer, Germany, is on the bubble with 1356.
