James Hylton, a 28-year-old right-hander from Salem, Ore., became the fifth person to roll an American Bowling Congress-approved 900 series May 2, 2001.
Hylton rolled three consecutive 300 games on the opening night of the summer Wednesday Super Bowl League at AMF Firebird Lanes.
"It's something you never dream of," Hylton said. "You dream about 300 games and 800 series but not 900. "I wasn't going to bowl that night because I was tired from a long week of bowling and work," said the full-time construction worker and part-time AMF Firebird Lanes security guard.<
"I was going to relax to start the summer season. You obviously don't expect 900 on the first night or any night for that matter."
Hylton's previous high ABC approved series was 823. He has seven ABC approved 800s and 10 previous 300s.
Hylton joins Jeremy Sonnenfeld, Tony Roventini, Vince Wood and Robby Portalatin with 900 series. Sonnenfeld rolled his Feb. 2, 1997 in Lincoln, Neb. Roventini had his in suburban Milwaukee on Nov. 9, 1998. Wood rolled his Sept. 29, 1999 in Moreno Valley, Calif. Portalatin had his Dec. 28, 2000 in Jackson, Mich.
