2006USBCWomensChampionshipLogo.jpg Linda Gearhart, Casa Grande, Ariz., achieved two personal milestones when she moved into second place in Division 3 Singles Wednesday at the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships presented by the Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus.

Gearhart rolled 203, 236 and 181 for a 620 series. Her 236 in the second game marked her high in a 27-year career, and the 620 pinfall represented the first time she's ever broken the 600 barrier.

Gearhart, who brought a 144 average to the Women's Championships, knew exactly what she needed in her final game to hit the 600 milestone."I was hoping to bowl at least 161 in my final game so I could get the 600, and I had plenty to spare," she said.

Interestingly, she accomplished her feat using an 11-pound ball that she bought at the National Bowling Stadium pro shop in 2000 with her winnings from a $150 slot jackpot.

"Basically I throw a straight ball down the middle with just a little hook," she explained. "But my 'Casa Grande style' wasn't working at the stadium, so I moved my delivery over to the right a little and it turned out fine. My biorhythms were good and I'm a morning person anyway," Gearhart kidded.

When she's not bowling for the Chantilly Brides at Casa Grande's Cotton Bowl, Gearhart owns and runs a day-care center for some 40 children in that Sun Belt city of 30,000 located 50 miles southeast of Phoenix. Married, with two grown children of her own, she's also indoctrinating some of her five-year-old day-care recruits in the fine art of bowling.

This year marked Gearhart's 15th national tournament and her third time bowling in Reno. And while she hasn't yet enjoyed the same luck on the slot machines, at least she can celebrate her 600-series bowling ball as one of the best deals she's ever made.
