On Friday, July 20, the BWAA board of directors agreed with the membership's recommendation to officially name the new global organization the International Bowling Media Association (IBMA). The change takes effect August 1.

The next step will be to merge the World Bowling Writers, a media group covering the sport and business on the international stage since 1977, into the IBMA.

A tentative agreement has been reached with WBW; and two new IBMA board of director seats have been created. Joining the IBMA board from WBW are Luby Publishing President Keith Hamilton Chicago, Illinois and WBW Executive Director Keith Hale, Woodlesford Leeds, England.

"We are very excited about the potential of the new IBMA," said retiring BWAA President Jim Goodwin. "We have worked very hard with others in the industry to make this happen, and we are looking forward to working with everyone to create this new global media organization for our great industry."

"The original mission of the BWAA changed so dramatically over the past few years that in order for the organization to address these new realities and remain relevant, the International Bowling Media Association was created, "said new IBMA President Joan Romeo. "We welcome the challenge and will do our very best to ensure its success."

With the name change to IBMA comes a new slogan - Honoring the past by embracing the future; a new Vision Statement - Communicate Bowling to the world; and a new Mission Statement - To be Bowling's source of excellence in the gathering and distribution of news and information through multiple media platforms.

The International Bowling Media Association will hold its first Annual Convention in conjunction with International Bowl Expo at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas June 23-28, 2013.
