Amedeo Spada powers his way into the lead at Florence International

    Italian rolls the tournament's first 300 game and a 1470 series; Spada leads by 97 pins as qualifying reaches halfway mark; cut for 38th place is 1162 (193.67 average)

    Amedeo Spada (pictured left) of Italy rolled the first 300 game in the 1st Florence International and become the first player who cracked the 1400-bar Tuesday night at Crazy Bowling in Florence, Italy.

    2012EBT18SaverioTuccimei.jpgThe long-time Italian national team member, who owns one European Bowling Tour title (Vienna Open, 2004), started his six-game block in Squad 14 (13 has been cancelled) with games of 247, 227, 233 and 257. After a low game of 206 Spada rebounded with twelve consecutive strikes for 1470 total, an average of 245, to rocket to the top of the 187-player leaderboard as qualifying has reached its halfway mark.

    Trailing Spada by 97 pins to sit in second place was his compatriot Saverio Tuccimei (right), who led since Squad 5 with 1373 (228.83). Third place Stavros Parasakis of Greece is the only other player who surpassed the 1300-mark with 1337 (222.83).

Norwegian national team member Heidi Thorstensen (right) was next with 1213 including 48 pins handicap to move into 16th place in the overall qualifying standings.

    The Norwegian is the best of four women above the cut line. Pamela Frioni of Italy moved into 23rd place with 1185, with Alessandra Morra of Italy in 25tht place with 1180 and Maja Debenec of Slovenia in 26th place with 1177.

    With 15 out of 30 qualifying squads in the books, Stefano Magri of Italy holds 38th and last place to advance with 1162 or an average of 193.67.

    Qualifying continues Wednesday, Nov. 7 with Squads 16-18 scheduled for 2, 5.30 and 9 p.m. CET.

    2012FlorenceInternationalLogo.jpg The Florence International is the 18th and penultimate event of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the last of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season. Players will compete for total prize fund of 29.960 Euro with 5.500 € going to the winner while the runner-up receives 2.800 €.

    The qualifying of the Florence International runs from Saturday, Nov. 3 through Saturday, Nov. 10 and concludes with Squad 30 scheduled for 6.30 p.m. local time (CET). Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 50 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday, Nov. 11:
    • the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • four players each from the leader boards of Nov. 3-4 squads and Nov. 5-7 squads
    • and the top 4 of the one-game Desperado Squad

    The top 8 qualifiers receive three byes, players in 9th to 16th place earn two byes and places 17 to 30 bypass the first round of the finals. The remaining 20 players bowl four games scratch with the top 10 meeting the qualifiers 17-30 in Round 2. The top 8 advance to the first round of single-elimination match play.

    In each round the highest seeded player meets the lowest seeded player, the second highest player meets the second lowest player etc. All matches are two-games, total pins format. The field will be trimmed to 16, 8, 4 and then two players, who will determine the champion.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 19 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, six Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Florence International gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
